Morning-Call article - Late bloomers (includes Jaohne Duggan)

Great article! Thanks for posting. I especially liked this bit:

A week after the Rutgers staff saw him for a second time, Duggan said he received a phone call with a scholarship offer and details on the academic and standardized test requirements he needed to meet in his senior year of high school to qualify for the scholarship. He accepted a day later. He can't sign a National Letter of Intent until Feb. 1, but he said he has been in contact with the coaching staff every week since he committed.

He committed 7 months ago.

Another very interesting bit to me was this:

The Patriot League's decision to start giving athletic scholarships four years ago has raised the league's talent level, but it also accelerated the recruiting process, according to Lehigh wide receivers coach/recruiting coordinator Scott Brisson.

"The bigger schools are done so early," Brisson said. "They offer sophomores. Some of them are offering freshmen. I think they miss a lot of guys. I think a lot of guys fall through the cracks to the FCS level, not necessarily to the Patriot League, but you see some of the top-level FCS schools in the country have guys that should be playing at Rutgers and Temple and those types of places."

At least a 3* guy possibly more just ending the process early hurt his rating but not his game. I think he is going to be a big time player for Ash and staff

Every other service has his as a 3*. I like what his HS coach said about his play: "violently disruptive." His film is incredible, and I think "violently disruptive" is too soft of a phrase to characterize his play. Look at the first play of his tape and at 7:37.

My favorite line in the article:
Pennypacker said high school players going through the recruiting process should "love the schools that love you" instead of chasing a school that hasn't shown mutual interest.

I liked this part the best, and wish that all our recruits were like this:

"Duggan said his parents liked the academic offerings, and it didn't hurt that he can make it home in an hour. He'd planned to attend multiple camps last summer, including ones at Penn State, the University of Michigan and Virginia Tech, but he didn't go to another camp or go on any visits after Rutgers showed interest in him."

Duggan is way up there when it comes to my personal favorites among the 2017 recruits.
