Mushnick on Stringer

When this contract is over it will be time to get a new head coach. Maybe one of the Assistant Coachs for UCONN as their program crashes.

When was the last time you saw Mushnick at the RAC. And he recalls an incident 2 decades ago! He's a hack who writes for a publication I didn't even realize still existed.

Ah Mushnick is an old fart and this article is pathetic. Since when does he even care about women's basketball, especially at Rutgers? The answer is, he doesn't. This was a mini hit job by an out of touch fool, who wants to rehabilitate is old friend Imus, when that mess occurred twelve years ago. What's Mushnick going to write about next? That when Schiano was HC at Rutgers he didn't reveal what he MIGHT have seen at Penn State? This article is that absurd.

Madhat, she needs to write a new article after the ridiculous one the old fart just wrote.
Heck, we just need to understand haters like him use their hate to get attention and don't care if they are right or wrong.
Seems to me Mushnick looks for the negative in everything when he puts out his yellow journalism trash

He's always been this way with whatever he writes. And the NY Post is not exactly a very good paper. As Wagner stated, "The man needs to be put in a nursing home." I couldn't agree more.

don't like mushnick or imus but he was no fan of imus --he attacks everyone and Imus was on that list

seen an article ( when finding the deadspin one) stating just about the same thing you just did.

Mushnick is an ahole. He wrote the article because his poor friend Imus got canned for racist remarks..boo hoo.

I don't think so. First, I was a loyal Imus listener and I don't ever remember Mushnick being on the show. No way a guy like him would'nt ask for an invite if they were friends. Second, I think he brought up the Imus incident to show that Stinger only gave second chances when it might benefit her. She could have lobbied for Imus to be retained after he apologized but there was nothing in it for her.
And of course third, Imus had no friends, just guests.

Despite your implication about not saying anything , CVS did .
After the incident a meeting between Stringer, the team and Imus was set up .
Stringer said the meeting went well. She later commented that they had accepted Imus's apology, and stated "It would sadden me for anyone to lose their job, he came to the meeting in spite of the fact that he lost his job. So let's give him credit for that." She also emphasized that the basketball team had not called for Imus to be fired
That would be a plus when Imus tried to get back on the air and succeeded.
Especially since a lawsuit against him was dropped that one of the RU players filed against him
Can't say for sure if Stringer had a hand in dropping it, but seems like Vivian was trying to move on from the incident and wasn't interested in hurting Imus after her and the team talked to him. So could have influenced the decision to drop the lawsuit

Since you were a loyal listener I'm sure you know about his other mishaps that Imus made proving what he said about the Rutgers WBB Team was only one of the statements that he made that wasn't very nice.
>In a 1984 interview, answering a question about Howard Stern, Don Imus said: "yes, Howard's a slut too, Lloyd ... Plus a Jew bastard, and should be castrated ... put in an oven

Imus referred to black sports columnist Bill Rhoden as a "The New York Times quota hire"

As reported by The New York Times columnist Bob Herbert in the course of a 1998 interview with Mike Wallace on 60 Minutes, Imus told a producer off-camera that McGuirk was hired to perform "****** jokes."

Robin Quivers claimed that when she worked with Imus at WNBC, he called her a "******" to her face.

Both Howard Stern and Quivers have also claimed that he mumbled "******!" at a black secretary named Brenda during their time at WNBC.

Then you have this when he discussed Pacman Jones with Warner Wolf in 2008 ( after Vivian accepted his apology in 2007 and Imus found a new station to put him on the air.)
Warner Wolf said: Defensive back Adam "Pacman" Jones, recently signed by the Cowboys, here's a guy suspended all of 2007, following a shooting in a Vegas nightclub.

Don Imus: Well, stuff happens. You're in a nightclub, for God's sake. What do you think is gonna happen in a nightclub. People are drinking, and doing drugs. There are women there and people have guns. So there, go ahead.

Warner Wolf: Also, he's been arrested six times since being drafted by Tennessee in 2005.

Don Imus: What color is he?

Warner Wolf: He's black.
Don Imus: Well there you go, now we know.

Imus claimed he was defending Jones.
Through his spokesman, Imus said, "I meant that he was being picked on because he's black."
Pacman said: "I'm truly upset about the comments. Obviously Mr. Imus has problems with blacks. I'm upset, and I hope the station he works for handles it accordingly.
Nothing happened and Imus stayed on the air

Not going to quote your lengthy post but if he was such a racist why would CViv have spoken in his defense

I was not trying to make her look bad though my post may have read that way. I only meant to point out that Mushnick's column wasn't written because Mushnick was pissed that Imus got fired 12 years ago.

As far as Imus, like many on air personalities, there were issues. His show when at its best was very good, and when not, could be very offensive. As far as quoting Pac Man Jones, consider the course.

Just will point out Imus made other raciest statements besides the RUWBB team one.
So that tends to make me feel he might have a bit of bigot in him.

As for CVS speaking in his defense, putting the incident to bed after their meeting might have been her motive.
Dragging it on wouldn't have done the RU WBB program any good

Let me preface this by saying that I am not even a casual fan of women's basketball which is probably my loss. I do know that Stringer is one of the most successful coaches in RU history in any sport and had a tremendous career (Iowa?) prior to coming here.
Agreeing that bringing up an incident that happened 15 years ago is pretty low my question is does Stringer have a history of recruiting players with questionable character and if so why does the school allow it? I don't think that Pike or Ash would be allowed to bring in players with violent criminal offenses on their record who were kicked out of other schools. The thread kind of got hijacked to a Mushnick/Stringer /Imus vein.
My first and probably my only post ever on this board so be gentle. I'm just trying to find out if this is all as bad as Mushnick claims.

If 'a history of recruiting players with questionable character' = giving two players with past issues a second chance in 24 years of coaching at Rutgers then yes, I suppose so. But of course, the real answer is no, absolutely not.

With all the bad press RU has received in the recent past (RU football player arrests, Kyle Flood and Mike Rice behavior, etc), I'm sure they scrutinized Morris' situation very carefully before giving the OK.

Mushnick is a jerk who always writes controversial stuff. Toss it in the garbage. These college kids are not saints. Take whoever you want CVS
