This is based on game performance in week 1.

1. OSU - they're no. 1 unless and until someone knocks them off. Dominating second half performance against the Hokies.

2. Northwestern - upset of no. 21 Stanford vaults the Cats to the no. 2 slot for this week.

3. MSU - solid but unspectacular win on the road against the Fighting Flecks.

4. Iowa - solid win in home opener.

5. Minnesota - tough loss against no. 2 TCU, but they acquitted themselves quite well against a potential playoff team.

6. Nebraska- let's face it, they had a good BYU team beat with a nice 2nd half comeback, but they lose on a flukey hail mary.

7. Illinois - gotta put them ahead of RU because their coach was fired a week ago, and they pummeled a 1-A team in Kent St.

8. Rutgers - overwhelming 2nd half performance, but against overmatched 1-AA Norfolk State.

9. Maryland - workmanlike win over Richmond.

10. Wisconsin - overmatched against Bama, but they deserve to be ahead of...

11. Indiana - they needed a dropped 2-point conversion by Southern Illinois to eek out a win against the 1-AA Salukis. They can score, but their defense is putrid.

12. Michigan - the Harbaugh Hype Machine loses steam in Utah.

13. Purdue - they lost on the road to an excellent Marshall team.

14. PSU - they're not last just because I hate them. They deserve the last spot. Less than 200 yards of offense, only 10 points but none after the first quarter, and gave up 10 sacks to Temple. And they couldn't keep up with the Owls' offense in the second half either. A stunningly bad performance from the Nits.
