My thoughts on the game

I didn't know which thread to put this in so I started a new one:

1) I'll start by saying that CL played well enough to beat WSU, not well enough to beat most of the B1G teams coming up. One play out of a half dozen that we all can review would have made a difference in the outcome and the uproar over CL would be much less. Having said that, HR should be the starter. WSU had all 11 defenders within 10 yards of the LOS for most of the game and not once did we throw the ball downfield to at least loosen up the defense. Bill Parcells once said that he throws a long pass once a quarter just to keep the defense honest. CL cannot throw the out pattern with any velocity. I found myself yelling for the ball to get there on a few occasions. Not gonna work against the B1G defenses.

2) Overall, I like McDaniels playcalling, runs to both sides compared to being a right handed running team in the past. Uses the TE and FB in the passing game which I really like.

3) Time management sucked. It was insinuated that it was one of the reasons CL was the starter because he was better with the up tempo and new the playbook better. I know some of the TO's were not due to him but I'd rather dumb down the playbook and get a livelier arm in the game. We would have run the ball just as well if not better with HR in the game.

4) When will our DC realize that his schemes on defense don't work against the spread? I know we are inexperienced in the backfield but the best coverages were when we played some man to man. Personally, I think its easier for inexperienced DB's to play man defense since its more instinctual vs thinking about coverages, too many of which were blown.
