I won't rehash the obvious...that has been done 1000x already on this board. RU was beaten soundly by a mediocre PSU team running a vanilla offense lead by the most overhyped QB since Ron Powlus was set to win "multiple Heisman trophies." And there was absolutely nothing RU could do to stop it.
I think this game is the culmination of multiple institutional failures by RU over the past several years, and the past several decades. And I'm tired of it. Unfortunately, I'm not in the position to offer enough $$$ to rectify it. Rutgers, as it has since the Grunniger years, is consistently bringing a knife to a gun fight and, to make matters worse, is doing so purposely because RU rather get shot to death on the football field than shot to death by the media...as if one is a better fate than the other.
Would you rather see headlines in the SL saying, "RU Suffers Yet another Conference Loss" or "Rutgers Again Highest in Nation in Athletic Department Subsidy?" Because right now, we're seeing BOTH headlines and there's no end in sight.
I'm tired of posters on here claiming that RU is "broke." RU is not "broke." More funding is needed, but the political will simply isn't there to field winning athletic teams because RU is unreasonably obsessed with the subsidy. Why does Barchi and the media treat the subsidy like an albatross? The money is going to be flowing into RU in 6 years. The approach of RU slashing spending, all while losing on the field, for the next 6 years just to impress the SL and some bean counters is madness. In the end, you may cut the subsidy by a few million. But it's a net loss because the fans and donors "saved money" by fielding a team with 5-win seasons. And make no mistake about it. 5-7 is perfectly acceptable to RU if the subsidy is being cut and the coach is making $2-$3 million less than his peers.
The writing is on the wall. Two teams in our own division are ranked #1 and #2 in the country today. What will RU do to deal with this reality?
Absolutely nothing.
