I haven't seen this posted before, so I wanted to discuss the effect that all this press is having on the national perception our school we all care deeply about (or we wouldn't be on this forum).
I coach my sons 4 year old soccer team here in Arizona (we moved here 5 years ago from NJ) , and as usual my son wore his favorite jersey, his Rutgers football #23 jersey. Well, multiple parents somewhat jokingly told me that I need to get him a different jersey to wear. I'd be fine if they said our football team was bad, but it was all geared towards comments on armed robbery, assault, academic integrity of the coach, etc....
Now I was a fan during the pre-Schiano years, so I can take some friendly heckling. But when people bring up the character of the team, calling them criminals etc...for the first time I felt like I'm not quite as "proud" to have myself and my kids wear the block R around. It almost felt like I had my kid wearing a Ray Rice jersey from the comments I got.
Just wondering if any other out of state people have experienced this . It really bothers me, and I've always supported Flood because of his integrity and the clean program. But I'm so disappointed in the events of the past month (on top of the poor play) that I can't support him any longer. My support now is for the kids busting their ass every week on the team doing things the right way.
And in case anyone is wondering , yes, the kids of the parents who mocked the Rutgers jersey will see their playing time in games drop significantly:joy:
