New Possible Recruiting Target: 2018 guard Alan Griffin

Any stats such as height, position ,competition he plays against would be appreciated,

This latest recruiting target for 2018 tells me that there will be additional scholarships available during the spring signing period which is a good sign.

You never stop recruiting up to the spring signing period....even when full.

Why would Pikiell be watching 2018 recruits if there won't be additional scholarships? It would be a waste of his time.

Because you never know if there will or will not be open spots...so, you keep watching and recruiting. Just in case. The last thing you want is not being on anyone and then have to scramble to find someone at the 11th hour.

Sounds like you don’t know heck of a lot about college basketball.
If we're keeping them on the burner it's fine and It sounds like we are planning for Bullock or Sanders leaving. But there should be no instance where we push hard when we have no ships

It's called having a contingency plan...everyone does it in everything...Life, recruiting, business, girlfriends, wives. etc.

Nobody is pushing hard. This is the only way to do it. You could potentially have Bullock, Sanders, Doorsan and Mensah gone. We are looking at a multitude of options and several will not play out until the spring. We are really new to be in this position. I’m sure current players understand the situation and it’s part of college basketball. The recruits we have coming in are already signed so none of this impacts them. It’s my understanding that the return of Shaq is a Rutgers decision so that’s one. Bullock will never play here so he has to review his options. He could stay but it wouldn’t make sense if he wants to play ball. He could stay and ride the scholarship as well. Mensah can’t play at this level. He can stay as well but he really should look at a lower level program, but that’s also his choice. Sanders will do what he thinks is best.

So if you sit back and do nothing, you are hurting the program. We have guys interested in joining and to win enough games to get to post season, replacing guys is inevitable.

Never stop recruiting my friend, you just can't afford to these days. Too many kids transfer each season.

Griffin played for NY Rens on the EYBL circuit. He's a good rebounder, decent catch-and-shoot guy, has the tools to be a good defender at the next level. In his junior year in HS I think he averaged 16 pts, 8 rebs and just under 2 stls per game.

Here is a write up that mentions Griffin, what he's averaging etc:
NYCHoops.net Mid-season Top Ten Players (Class of 2018)

If you have a contingency plan for a wife then you are doing marriage wrong.

Well said! I almost liked the original post as it started out great but I was like, wait, girlfriends (umm, oookay?) ... Wives?!? Nope, lol.

WOW.....You guys really need to learn how to recognize a "Tongue - in - Cheek" comment !!!

C'Mon Man, you guys can't be serious.

Besides the spelling, do you agree with me on the content?

Why did you put doorson in that list? you've made it clear you don't like him as a player, but why would you think he's going anywhere? I've only seen that coming from you.

In fairness, the question on Doorson has been mentioned numerous times as he’s a 4th year junior with a history of foot injuries. No one knew how his foot and game would respond on the court this year which led to speculation regarding a return for a 5th season next year. While not wowing anyone,Doorson has stayed healthy and been serviceable against the right matchups. Hopefully, he continues to stay healthy, provide meaningful minutes, and improve as the season goes on.

Interesting list of NY kids. Is the 7-1 Center Moses Brown (#1 on the list) a one-and-done Kentucky/Duke/UNC/Kansas, Rivals top 20 type kid? Or more of a top 100 kid?

I would not worry too much about who may depart from the roster this early into the season...Doorson looks the best he has since his arrival. I also don't see how Mensah as a junior that just arrived landed in the potential bucket as well, I fully expect him to be here next year when a player like Mulcahy can take his scholarship for the class of 2019.

We've beaten the Bullock thing to death, no need to rehash that again....Sanders has 13 games plus the B1G tournament to see if he can be a consistent 16-20 PPG guy...if he does, RU likely wins 5-7 B1G games, which only helps recruiting long term for 2018-19 either way.

Very simple and I have nothing against Doorson (spellcheck). Btw, because I’ve spelled it wrong it’s because it auto fills from the first time I’ve spelled it so never changed it.

I don’t know Shaq or dislike him in any way and he’s provided some good moments in his career. He’s certainly changed his body significantly so it shows the work he’s put in. However, if I treat my views like a GM would manage a team and I know that I’m not obligated to bring a kid back for a 5th year, I’m certainly recruiting kids that can potentially help my program next year.

Is there something wrong with evaluating kids who might make a bigger impact or am I not a Rutgers guy? College sports is very much a business and paying for a kid to come to school is for a reason. The school paid for 4 years and I hope Shaq graduates and gets a good job, etc. He doesn’t have a future pro basketball career so it is what it is.

If there’s not a better option out there and he is invited back to play and wants to come back, welcome back Shaq. Pikiell is a real basketball coach and Doorson is limited and misses key free throws. I’m just saying the option is there that 3-4 spots will be open for 2018 and I hope Corey’s is not one of them.

Anytime a prospect's name is in blue bold type in a write-up on the Rivals network, it is a hyperlink that you may click on for more information about that prospect.

Many, if not all, of the questions you asked will be answered if you go back to the article and click on Moses Brown's name.

This kid seems like he could use a training program. He is not a fluid athlete by any means. Not to say he can't help. He just doesn't look coordinated enough to play at this level.

Tell that to the coaches at Seton Hall, Minnesota, Xavier and Rutgers......lol
