I hear you njcanes but despite my kudos on the win above, the reality is that we still have a very long way to go in a number of sports, including tennis. The Big Ten records of our women’s tennis, volleyball, gymnastics,, and softball teams and, of course football team suggest that in those programs we remain light years away from being truly competitive. We have of course been competitive in a few sports. Once we get the Big Ten money, I am hopeful that facilities will be improved and recruiting will be improved in the weaker sports and results will change for the better. So while, as I said, I was very happy with the tennis win against Penn State (and the strong performance of FH, WBB and wrestling and recent (until today) upward trend of MBB),I would be surprised if we won another tennis match this season. Because Tennis has a game of one on one or two on two play, individual talent, rather than strategy, for the most part means that teams with more highly recruited players will typically win. I see that on my daughter’s college team and elsewhere in college tennis. We remain light years behind almost every Big Ten program in the quality of our recruiting. The current coach is improving that so if she can continue that trend and we can get money for better facilities, the future could be bright. But it’s an uphill battle right now for tennis and a number of other sports. Go RU.
