The New Jersey Devils are giving out great jackets to the 344 people who made it to the famous game during the blizzard of January of '87 against Calgary Flames.
I am one of them. Sadly the living members are under 300. But the Devil's are reaching out to their family members. Made it to the game with no problem. Didn't leave until 5am the next day after digging a few cars. And waiting for an exit to open.
Anyone else a member?

Remember that well. I wasn't there but a good friend and season ticket holder I know was there. We kind of lost touch and I know he was one of the 344.

How do they know who was at the game?
We basically couldn't leave and somebody came around and confirmed who we were. We were all season ticket holders and our tickets stubs were saved. This is before scanning tickets

The only reason I made it was a friends horse was running on the west coast and I arrived early to make a wager and the food was slightly better at the track

My friend was from Hasbrouck Heights so he lived like 5-10 minutes away from the Arena in non-blizzard conditions.

Stationed down in Norfolk, living off base in Chesapeake. Iirc, we got like 6" from that storm and it paralyzed the area.

Question for my fellow Devils fans that I pondered as I sat in the Pru Center last night: Does Patrick Elias' number get retired when he's done ? Tough call imo. On the one hand he's a career long Devil with two Cups but on the other he's not a sure fire HOFer like the others.

Daneyko wasn't a HOFer

Different blizzard, 2010, Elias and Zajac got stuck in their car on Rte 280 West for about 12 hours lol.

I remember this... funny stuff, you forget that these guys are regular people trying to get back and forth to work. I live in Cranford so an easy 20 minute train ride to the rock. This was pre kids and I lived within walking distance of the train. was very tempted to go knowing that it would be an empty house and I'd likely be able to move down close to the ice. Still kicking myself that i didn't.

Definitely gets retired. Won two cups, lifelong Devil, excellent player.
