No. 22 Rutgers Baseball vs. Lafayette/Penn

And someone was questioning on Saturday if we should be ranked.
lol

Lafayette pitchers surrendered 17 walks and hit 3 batters. As if RU needed the help.

An interesting point of comparison to the last team before Owens came. Mike Nyisztor had the best numbers of anyone in that 2019 lineup. This year, his numbers are almost identical to 2019. However, at this point in the season, those numbers now put him number 11 of 11 lineup players who have started at least six games for RU this year. This is an amazing turnaround. And you can spend all day pulling out little illustrations like this.

Tomorrow's game against Penn concerns me as a trap game. They are a notch above the other northeastern out of conference teams we've played.

I looked up Penn's season to date, and the same team that we annihilated today, Lafayette, beat Penn in their home stadium, 9-3. It'll be another warm day tomorrow, ideal for hitting, so hopefully the bats stay hot and we put the Quakers away for a Quad 1 win before the weekend series with Indiana.

Looking at team stats, today's game could be a real slugfest. Both teams are hitting over .300 including 3 players batting over .400.

8-4 in 8th

Sweeney timely hitting. Stellar defense by the Knights is helping to thwart the Quakers.

That’s a wrap. 8-4 final. Good win against an opponent that doesn’t hurt our SOS. The streak continues.

And that was the final score. 12 in a row for the Knights. Another weekend sweep would bring them to 30 victories on the season, with a lot of baseball still to be played.

27-6 … win win win … Penn is 19-9 (have not looked at that SOS but a pretty good record)

Beat the teams you are supposed to and pull off a few upsets!

Great coach, great start and a very solid team!!!!

Not sure about upsets. We could be favored in every series the rest of the way. Of course fortunes could change, but for now we are the hunted.

Entering the game, their RPI was 39, we were 37. Now we are 31 and they are 40.

Yup. Right now Maryland is the only team, B1G or OOC, ranked higher.

Top 5 B1G RPI

#21 Maryland (@RU 5/7-9)
#31 RUTGERS
#63 Illinois (DNP)
#77 Iowa (@RU 4/22-24)
#82 Michigan (@Mich 5/19-21)

Let’s sweep the Hoosiers!
Ex-Rutgers catcher Peter Serruto arrives with his Indiana team.

One other NJ athlete, RHP John Biagio-Modugno, on the Indiana roster.

Indiana had an ambitious early season playing Clemson, Arkansas, and Stanford, losing all 5 of their games with these teams..

The 3 game Michigan series to end the regular season is in Ann Arbor. Rutgers also travels to Columbus for 3 vs #171 OSU. SHU and Princeton are also Away.
I was referring only to the games against the top RPI teams in the conference.
