No. 3 Rutgers Field Hockey Wraps Regular Season at Home vs. Michigan State (Friday), Lafayette (Sunday)

Great! Bring it home, ladies!

A win today, I believe, clinches a Top 3 seed in the B1G tournament, which will take place at RU. I think that the other game affecting our final seed is being played between PSU and Michigan. Any news on that one?

I just checked the B1G standings and schedule. The Michigan-PSU game starts at 6:00 p.m. Right now, RU, UM, and PSU are all tied at 5-2, with RU holding the tie-breaker over the Nits if both win today, which would leave UM as the #4 seed, if I am calculating all of this correctly. Surprisingly, UM lost to Maryland in its last game.

RU-MSU is now with less than 10 minutes remaining and RU up 3-0.

Sloppy passes led to 3 MSU brakes in on our keeper only to have them fumble their chances away. Can't get away with that against top teams. Better clean it up. GO RU!

That should mean that Michigan won't be in our side of the bracket. And Iowa losing makes them seem more beatable. So RU, as host and the #2 seed, has a golden opportunity in front of it and will hopefully take full advantage.

If Rutgers beats Indiana, they will play the winner of Penn State-Maryland. Rutgers beat both by 1-0 scores but were lucky to hold on. Maryland dominated play for most of the game and Penn State had numerous corners in the last minutes and couldn't score.

I don’t like this at all. Scoreless game going towards the end of the second. Why on earth are we playing an out of conference game right now? This could hurt our RPI and seeding in the NCAA’s should we come up short.

Looking at the tournament bracket on the B1G website, it appears as though Iowa has a bye into the second round. Does anyone know why that is the case, if in fact if is the case? There are more than 7 field hockey teams in the B1G, aren't there?

There are 9 B1G FH teams, but OSU and MSU didn't qualify for the Tourney. Only Top 7 teams did and Iowa gets a 1st round bye due to finishing as B1G Regular Season Champs.

Thanks. Both of the bottom dwellers seemed to be pretty awful teams, at least in conference play but I didn't realize that there is some kind of minimum standard that must be met to qualify for the B1G tournament.
