Basketball No fans at Big Ten Tourney starting Thursday

this is the last day fans will be allowed to attend

essential personnel plus family members...ditto for ALL Big 10 competitions in the spring

wow that sucks for those who are already out there...they really should have decided this days ago...fans there tonight but not tomorrow seems ridiculous

statement coming up on BTN after the break
I'm sure they will pkayvtge act if nature clause but honestly, there should be a class action suit to get reimbursed for travel, tix, and lodging.
This could have been decided days ago and now its all a race to cover their asses.

I understand the decision, but it’s gonna totally suck watching the games on tv without any crowd noise or excitement.

All we’ll hear is the squeak of sneakers and coaches and players yelling to each other, besides the announcers of course.

Oh well, I’ll still be rooting like crazy from home, for RU to beat Michigan and advance in the tourney.

There is a reason they waited. Now it’s mandated by the government. No liability.

exactly....you either plow ahead with it or you dont.....there really is nothing new from what was known Sunday...everyone knew that this was a growing crisis and that things looked grim for fans. It was bad judgment to push off the decision

OOF to all those who went to Indy to see us play. Its the right move but too late. Anyone with half a brain could see this thing taking off exponentially like all countries prior to America. Especially with how awful our healthcare system is compared to Europe.

Should have cancelled a week ago.

maybe it was a competitive decision to let the conference teams get used to playing in such an environment prior to the NCAAs next week.

(half kidding)

You must be kidding with that dumb statement.
Trust me, you would rather be treated here than anywhere else for a serious illness

Smart move in that it gives the players a chance to get used to playing in front of empty stands before the NCAA's.
On the other hand, Penn State is already use to that so they have now become the tourney favorites to win.

Big East hasn’t made the call yet.

at this point it is a snowball rolling downhill and everybody is going to do it. Takes guts for the first conference or two to make the decision, but now that the entire NCAA tourney is that way there is nothing stopping everybody from joining in.

I don't know what the Italian trend looks like and I've given up trying to paiste today's update from US from CDC...Google it and read it all. Something like 973 cases , under 30 total deaths, and the graph and data listing for that graph showing new cases actually peaked a few days ago,
Now could it explode ? Of course.
But I would suggest everybody take a look at that report just to ground yourself on the current real facts. Cdc.gov

Terrible place to be hoping they are right and they are wrong. Be safe be smart be educated.

@mikeyo

i wasnt referring to me or the quality of care - was referring to accessibility to care and testing.

Politics aside, there are tens of millions of people who have 0 effing insurance in this country and even more who are underinsured with sky-high deductibles. Cant afford a test, can't afford care, cant afford to take time off work. Unfortunately, this is now all of our problem whether we like it or not.

Being that this is the current situation with almost no time to change it, plenty of people will be walking around with COVID-19 in this country un-diagnosed and spreading it everywhere.

Italy had 3 cases approximately 20 days ago. they are now over 12,000. massive changes week to week. social distancing is the only thing that works and is exactly what this task force of doctors are doing.

those are current real facts. we would be making the exact same mistakes italy made a few weeks ago if we allowed this tournament to go on with thousands of people in the stadium.

I feel bad for the kids. All of them, not just ours. It has to be demoralizing knowing you’ve worked all this time to play in games that will undoubtedly feel less impactful, less important.

as a fan this is my favorite time of the year in any sport. It is going to be bizarre to watch these games and hear every word the players and coaches on the court say and hear no roar of the crowd. The Final Four will be just nuts. Will there even be pregame introductions of starting lineups?

Well, we’ve lost to Michigan at the Garden and at home. Now let’s home an empty gym is the charm.

Like I said look at the US numbers. We had 3 three weeks ago too. I'm not debating what doctors would say. But maybe they should stop greeting each other with a kiss.

I'm just saying look at the US data. Maybe that chill some folks, that's all.

This will have an amazing impact. This will be very generic and really level things. That part will be very interesting.

Btw..if you want to get a sense of the coming tourney just mute your volume lol. Activate sub titles lol.

whats the point of your post here? yes, the numbers we have are just like italys 2 weeks ago and they are increasing at the same rate. in the very near future, we will have to implement a very similar style of containment if we are to effecively stop this virus. being that this is a novel virus, we have 0 immunity. our bodies will respond in the exact same way as the italians to this virus - it will and is spreading very quickly. dont be fooled by the 1,000 figure either. if it doubles every few days ... we can have 10k+ cases in about 10 days or so.

the problem with exponential growth curves is it will be almost impossible to not have 1M+ cases in the next 6-8 weeks

I’m at a gym now and it’s packed. Everybody touching same equipment, weights, etc. it will be hard to change human behavior.

Italy has 3* the case fatality rate of China...
