This loss hurt - there is no doubt about it. We REALLY needed someone to step up and be the Go To guy on this team at the end - and we just don't have it. Tonight showed what happens when there is no good plan in place to replace your two offensive Go To guys from last year in Ron and Geo! I fear that this will not be the last time this happens. I love this team defensively, but when we get into a dog fight like tonight we need someone to take us on their shoulders offensively - again we just don't have it. Also please take Hyatt out during these times - he is really the last person I want with the ball. I think the only possible answer is fast-tracking Simpson....aside from that I don't think that person exists on this team.

Paul and Caleb had both chances in the final possesssion and passed it up. Put Simpson in, give him the chance. He’s a baller. No one else has ice in their veins like Geo did

Was just going to post that this is the first time it was overwhelming that there is not yet a go to option. Love Paul but his style takes too long on end of game plays. Hyatt much improved but he has shown the opposite of knocking down clutch shots.

Yes Simpson can break down better than most but not there yet. Need to think on this but it should be near the top of diagnosis issue as end game scenarios will be a plenty if succesful.

If you take away the 3 point shooting of Hyatt in the corners/wings and don't play Simpson vs Indiana last weekend, where's the offense going to come from??

Start Simpson with Mulcahy, Caleb Hyatt and Cliff.

Let Spencer come off the bench as your 6th man and Mag should be your energy guy off the bench, subbing in for Caleb, Hyatt.

The rest of the sub patterns are fine, Woolfork and Reiber for Cliff. Maybe find a 6 to 7 minutes for Jalen Miller.

As much as Hyatt drives me mad, and how I would love nothing more than to exile him to the end of the bench never to be heard from again - we do need his scoring. That hurts to say, but on this team we have to deal with all of his nonsense because we are starving for offense..

Man I don't want Mag on the bench vs Hyatt, but I reluctantly agree with you until we can hopefully get Simpson going. Mag just gives us such a more complete, athletic and less crazy game than Hyatt but Hyatt can score more. Agree with the rest of your sub patterns, except for Jalen Miller - no need for him. The last thing a team starving for offense needs is him - Lol.

McConnell will get going on offense in a few games, but we need a lot more. Again, Pikes poor recruiting is showing.

We gave up 45 points. Who was the catalyst on defense?

This was my question at the beginning of the year, who gets the ball in crunch time. It’s clear that answer is still not answered.

McConnell's game has never been that - offensively in the past he's been inconsistent and then has disappeared. I think what we've seen is pretty much what he is on offense and that's ok - we just don't have any offense so we are all grasping at straws for someone/anyone to save us. This team is not balanced unfortunately, and you need look no further than the architect - Pike! (And by the way I am a huge fan of Pike, and am grateful for what he has done for this program - but the lack of 3 point shooters year after year and the position we are in now offensively is truly head scratching to me)

We had zero players in double digits in scoring today. I can’t remember the last time that happened.

Had no faith in anybody taking that final shot, and doubt I will the rest of the season.

We actually have a pretty good shooting team. We don’t have a guy that is willing and or capable to be the guy. We lack star power which means we can’t afford to piss away possessions like we did. We need to keep turnovers to about 10 a game.

I'm not totally sure what you what you mean when we say we have a good shooting team. I agree with you that our margin for error is pretty slim because we lack star power or a Go To guy. However, for the Umpteenth year in a row under Pike we don't have a 3 point specialist for whatever reason. Every high school in my county, along with every cupcake we played this year has at least 1 if not multiple. It helps to keep the Defense honest, and in this day and age you need people out there who can shoot the 3. Our scoring was atrocious tonight, just as it was against Temple. Subtract out the cupcakes when you look at how we are shooting. This is a great defensive team, but not at all a good offensive team, scoring team or shooting team.

I think Paul can fill that role to some extent by penetrating into the lane or backing his man down. With his footwork and height, he needs to be more aggressive shooting the ball.

overall Mag is started to emerge as better than Hyatt overall.

We shouldn’t have needed to have a go to player down the stretch in this game.

We didn’t run one set in the entire second half that I felt good about.

I guess my point is if we look acros the roster we actually can shoot thr 3 better than prior teams. But and it’s a big but we don’t have people that can create their own space for a three. They are all spot up guys which means we have to move the ball. Spot up shooting is what I am talking about.

No one wanted to take the shot. We had a few game tying/winning opportunities, & had nothing set-up..
I know he was cold tonight, but why is there no “Wisconsin/Xavier Bill Murray Dagger’ shot set up for Cam.
Even Hyatt, is a corner shot from a designed play would have stood a better chance than the YMCA ball at the end.
This game & Miami could have been won with designed plays
