Son is starting at RU in the fall. RU does not take NJ Blue Cross Blue Shield. Registering a student for the health center is $2000/year, which is ridiculously high. I don't recall ever visiting Hurtado during my time at Rutgers, except perhaps for a physical for a RU-related job.

Checked on Google, but wanted to ask here. What are some good immediate care options in or New Brunswick for RU students?

Knightshift, there is thread with an article down the page a bit about Rutgers and Blue Cross creating a big medical research partnership. Are you sure Blue Cross is not accepted? That would really be strange with the new partnership. Of course, this is Rutgers so it would not shock me . lol You might want to see if anything has changed recently. If RU still doesnt, maybe someone who lives in Somerset or Middlesex counties has some suggestions.—Hope your son enjoys going to RU and I hope he enjoys the freight train that Rutgers Basketball is becoming.

Thank you, and we learned during orientation that the RU health center does not accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

How strange that our State University does not accept what must be one of the biggest insurers in the state. Maybe the biggest?

That seems unusual. I'd contact Rutgers' student health services to confirm this and see what your options are.
We may have received bad info. Checking into it today. The RU health care website has no useful information.

EDIT- we checked and the RU health center is not in our network. If our son uses the Rutgers Health Center, we can pay out of pocket for each visit. The difference would probably be minimal under our health insurance plan, which has a $6-7,000 deductible which we never reach.
