Norwalk's Rothhaar heads to Rutgers with 14 letters

I find this sad and unnecessary. He won't play at all next season. Finish HS with your friends, get your 16 letters and then get here in the summer.

The shine of being a high school athlete has diminished. For many it is a means to an end, and that is the goal.

He is also an engineering major. Maybe he wants to get a ton out of the way in the spring and summer, to make his first full football season easier.

Is the shine of being a HS athlete diminished in most places? I thought it was just at my kids school.

With all the injuries to the TE position, he may have a chance to crack the rotation. I'm sure he's aware there are at least two upperclassmen ahead of him. The rest of the unit hasn't been impressive.

I think some programs, that have the right culture and success, create an awesome place for kids to play and thrive. But I think most high school sports teams have mediocre cultures at best and create nothing beyond playing on the field.

I also think with the club model, and year round training it really is just becoming a means to get to college to play. And over zealous parents have a bad influence also.
