Phil Martelli at halftime - "SHU keeps the ball in front of them. They force you to shoot over them and not go around them." They're more responsible for their own man, and not for everyone else's man, leaving multiple guys open for three. Try it Pike.

12 point halftime lead gone and they've only scored 8 points in 14 minutes
So what? I wasn't even talking about the game. I was talking about what Phil Martelli said at half time - the things SHU does well defensively. Uh, Martelli is kind of an expert. SHU is fundamentally solid on D. We are not. In fact, we pretty much suck on D. I don't see where that is even arguable. By the way, I hate SHU, but Pike isn't in Holloway's world. For the zillionth time - 2 post season wins in 19 years vs. an NIT championship and an Elite eight appearance with St. Peters. Anyone believing Pike is the better of the two is lost.

Absolute clown.

FYI Seton Hall is ranked 88th defensively and 310th (!) offensively. Like not only are they bad defensively, they are worse offensively than we were last year!

But you keep pumping that miracle elite 8 run and… uh.., NIT appearance

They are 7-21.

Seven

And

Twenty

One
This season means nothing dummy, about as much as Pike's first two seasons at Rutgers when he finished 14th in a 14 team league. I would never hold that against him. By the way, is that childish spacing thing supposed to have a greater impact?

Seton Hall is WAY worse than Pikes first year. This is Halloway’s third year there. And he inherited a program that had been* to the tournament 6 out of 7 years (counting 2020).

You can’t really be this stupid lol.

No opposing coach has ever said anything good about Pikiell’s defenses, even when they were rated multiple times in the top 10 compared to Seton Hall’s current ranking of #88.

Check ****ing mate
Have you ever heard a coach make a negative comment about an opposing coach? Listen, Holloway is better than Pike when it comes to accomplishments, and in the end, that's all that matters. And stop cursing all the time. It's not becoming of a Rutgers man, LOL.

That's literally my point you colossal dumbass.

Get ****ed, ****.

Holloway is in the middle of a spectacular failure at Seton Hall, running a program that was doing quite well into the ground, but he will always have that one special tournament appearance (in seven tries and counting) and um.. the NIT championship. The dream of every power conference school, right there.

Oh also, someone said something kind of nice about his defense which you just pointed out is meaningless.

You must have an IQ of about 50. You're right. I am pumping an Elite run, which was not a miracle, and an NIT championship I believe, not just an appearance, so keep playing them down by calling one a miracle and one just an appearance.

The elite eight run was cool.

Since then he took over a program with 6 out of 7 years in the tournament and has missed* the tournament three straight years and has now put together an Eddie Jordan level embarrassment of a team. And to be fair to Eddie his first two efforts were even better than this shit. As were all of Fred Hill's efforts. And Mike Rice's.

*I guess they could still win the BE tournament LOL

An NIT championship is just 69th place, losing in Dayton is better than that.

You might be the dumbest poster ever. So Phil Martelli, one of the most successfull NCAA coaches ever, points out something SHU does well on defense and you call him "someone" and that his statement is meaningless. You probably don't even know who he is f**ketine.

Yes his statement is meaningless because Seton Hall's defense isn't even good. I can see that by looking at all the ****ing points they give up. I don't even need to be a great NCAA coach.

But congrats, Seton Hall's defense played a good half, yay for them. Too bad they still lost the game and virtually all of the other games too.

"An NIT championship is just 69th place"? What does that say about us? We couldn't even win one game as the number one seed. Pike has two post season wins in 19 years. Oh, and a 5-18 record at D3 Wesleyan. I forgot that one. Keep opening your mouth. It's entertaining.

"They force you to shoot over them", too bad teams are shooting over them at an effective FG% of 54.2%. That's good for... 321st nationally well done lmao

"An NIT championship is just 69th place"?
Not really sure what to tell you, if you win the 3rd place game by 100 points it is still the 3rd place game.

You are one of only a couple posters here that is considered an idiot by both pro-Pike and anti-Pike people, I mean just look at the reaction of others to this stupid thread. You probably can't even get Lou to defend this shit lol.

The problem with Chow and others is that they actually believe that all conferences are equal. Is Villanova actually a good offensive team this year?? Are they going to beat teams in 2025 from the B1G or SEC??

Listening to Martellli and putting stock into anything an announcer says is problem number 1.....I could ask you to watch the USC RU game and listen to how they make comments about coaching all the time. None of it is relevant unless you discuss the competition.

And the NIT last year?? Please stop....

St Joe's in OT
North Texas
UNLV
Georgia
Indiana State

This is the murderous row of competition that led to the NIT championship.

I like Holloway, he has literally no chance to win games at SHU because the coach is ultimately responsible for the lineup and roster. And he has SEVEN wins total and March 1st is actually Saturday.

It is impossible to say a coach that is 2-15 in a Big East that is nowhere nearly as good as the last couple of years, is somehow a way to talk about SHU defense. Anything is possible in a 30+ game schedule, SHU beat UConn 2 or 3 weeks ago. I think you might have to build a statue at the Prudential Center based off the UConn win....LMAO

This is somehow the worst ever praising of an opposing coaches of all time. The roster has seven wins and both of their conference wins were in OT at home.

Patrick Ewing took a last place Big East team in the regular season to a miracle run and Big East tournament win and he was fired less than 3 years after that. I hate to break the news to you, but you cannot base NCAA coaching on phantom runs. You have to look at everything and right now, Holloway has a better chance of finishing in the bottom 3 of the Big East next year as well, vs being a NIT or bubble team.

That would be FOUR years of what major at accomplished exactly?? A NIT title with 4 out of 5 wins on a path of North Texas, St Joe's, UNLV and Indiana State??? LMAO

And yet Pike has won two straight against the Wooden of South Orange.

Choosing to die on the hill of 7-21 and 2-15 is colossally stupid. And if he doesn’t turn it around next year he’s history as he has few supporters among the BOT.

Seton Hall and Rutgers face similar problems being mid level to bottom tier programs in conferences that have some high level coaching and talent .There are no easy wins and the home court advantage is quickly disappearing. The best NJ talent usually choose schools out of state.

I skimmed the responses to this post, so it's probably already been mentioned: Rutgers had the number 6 ranked defense IN THE COUNTRY last year.
