O.T.-Frank Gifford Dead

RIP Frank.
Remember you at LH, Alex Webster at RH, Mel Triplett at FB with Charley Conerly the QB when I was a kid and a Giant fan.

Read his book a number of years ago. He had quite the life from the early 50s through his broadcasting career. May he rest in peace.

A friend I grew up with (and an RU grad) is a commercial pilot, Gifford was on one of his flights years ago, stopped in the cockpit after landing. He said Gifford was a very nice, sincere man, easy to speak with.

Well the last of the trio, dandy Don, Howard, Frank Gifford has passed......as Don would sign "turn out the lights, the party is over......" RIP Frank

An all time great Giant. Loved when he did a Giant's game you could sense the bias in his voice and I loved it. RIP Frank

One of the greatest |G-|men of all time. RIP

Back when I worked for the League, Frank's son worked for us in the mail room. Really sweet kid. Like everyone else, he always had great things to say about his dad. My thoughts are with him, at this difficult time.

My Dad ( may he RIP) was a NY Giants season ticket holder for his company in a private Box. He met many of the NY Giants players back in the day at the Stadium Club at the old Yankee Stadium. He always spoke very highly of Frank Gifford based on his meetings with him.

Gifford and Yogi were his favorite NY pro athletes.

May Frank Gifford RIP. Truly a great athlete and an even better person. Sports history has turned another page.

I remember when Gifford was knocked unconscious (concussion) by Chuck Bednarik....and there was talk of retaliation NJ style.

RIP Frank.

I just looked at the video on NFL.com -- there is nothing particularly "vicious" about the hit.Nor is it in any way a cheap shot. It does not look like a blow that would render a man unconscious. Gifford was just unlucky in how he fell. Gifford told his then-wife in the hospital room that the hit was a clean hit.

I remember Gifford starting from age 7; I grew up in NYC. He was a fine ballplayer and a great broadcaster. RIP.

Prof. Clean hits can rattle your brains to no end. I was (Thank God no concussion) and my son was smashed on both sides of his helmet (and He DID get one). Remember, if Giff's day, the helmets only had a webbing to suspend it on the head. NO PADDING. It kept the head from being crushed or split open, but not much help from scrambling one's brain.

I met him at a MNF press luncheon at Texas Stadium. He was a true gentleman, very soft-spoken, a great athlete, an even better broadcaster and a very good looking man. May he rest in peace.

Alamo Al, take a look at the hit. Bednarik was not going for his head, but rather grabbed him and whirled him down. What you say about the helmets of the time makes it easier to understand why Gifford was hurt, but there is nothing exceptional about the hit --nothing that justifies calling it vicious.

Never thought he was a great broadcaster, but he always seemed to carry himself with a great deal of class. And he seemed totally at ease at all times. How does someone in the public eye do that? Those things should count for something in this world. RIP, Mr. Gifford.
