OC Drew Mehringer Game Week Press Conference - Howard

I'm not saying we will probably or definitely score less than 30. But if we played Howard 10 times we'd probably score less than 30 3 times. I'm sorry if that's insulting to you.

Can't wait to see posts about how Howard is a good team when we fail to put up 30 points
I hope the last thing on the coaching staff's mind is running up the score on Howard. What they should be doing is using the Howard game to work on improving problem areas in the offense. Given that problem areas are inherently unlikely to work well at the start of the game, things may look pretty ugly to start out but should improve as the game goes on (and we work through some of those problems).

The net result is a lower scoring game than possible, but an improved football team. And yeah, when Ash is asked about the final score after the game, I don't think he's going to insult Howard on TV by saying "we used them as practice dummies". I think he'll use coach-speak and say they were a good team.

Mildone, I agree. I am not suggesting we should, or will, run it up. I am totally disagreeing with the people who are clearly implying that this team is not capable of scoring 30 against Howard. That to me is just stupid.

Anyone else hear Drew say that we may be running more Wildcat with Grant or others taking the snap ?

Not sure I like to hear that but it tells us something about what our OC is thinking for future opponents.

You do realize this Offense is basically a glorified wildcat?

Have we discussed RU players other than the QB taking snaps ? If so then I don't recall it.
No we have not. My point is the power spread is basically a wild cat with a guy who can throw

To be honest, I truly thought our starting day QB was going to be somebody who played another position last season.

Because the guys we have taking snaps at QB can't do what he needs them to running the ball in his offense. Unfortunately, that removes the element of surprise/flexibility that a running QB gives you.
