40 years ago...Baby I'm thinking we aint that young any more...

Mike, funny you should post. Last night (right before my emails) I was looking at a "similar" article about the shows at UNC at the Dean Smith Center before "Charlotte" happened. According to that article a 2-night "Greatful Dead" stand in conservative, cleaned Chapel Hill also may have been responsible (the last major 20,000+ show in Chapel Hill was Bruce in Kenan Stadium in 2009?) At UNC, you had Memorial Hall (about 1987 or 1988 Memorial hosted "Modern English" and in 1985 or 86 before I arrived they hosted my recently discovered and short lived "Lone Justice".

I'm hoping, based on my experiences at Carolina, that, once 2021 (and full B1G revenue share) hits a new multipurpose arena replaces the RAC. It was great to literally have concerts next door as a grad student at UNC (saw the 3rd and 4th show of "Tunnel" Tour, Billy, Fleetwood Mac, Boston, Bowie, YES and a very emotional home coming show by James Taylor). I guess it was money and perhaps schoolwork but I can't believe a few that I missed (Tina Turner, Pink Floyd, Rod Steward-made a conscious decision on him).

I was there. Freshman year. 1st of about 60 Springsteen shows that I have seen in my lifetime.

Best of Luck,

I was at WRSU studios when the crew that announced where the Springsteen show tickets were to be sold was announced on air. They asked us to stay away from the phones and the exits until they made their on-air announcement. The photo in this thread shows you why I didn't go. No way I'm waiting that long for tickets....... turned out to be my loss as history would prove.

For those interested, "The Bruce Springsteen Band" was first announced in the Targum of, I believe, December 16, 1971 where you could see them free at The Ledge (today's Student Activities Center).

Bruce Springsteen appeared at The Ledge in 1971, the Rutgers Student Center in 1973 and The Barn (Rutgers College Avenue Gym) in 1976 although he made an appearance in 1974 and sang three songs with the headliner at The Barn that night, Billy Joel!

I have the poster for Bruce at the Ledge. It is up on my sons wall at work. He is not at work today but tomorrow I will post a photo of it. I am trying to find myself in that line, lol.

Truthfully back then you waited in line for everything. Who remembers signing up for classes in the Barn?

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has the poster of Springsteen performing at Rutgers as part of the Springsteen exhibit. If my memory is correct it was for the show at The Ledge.
