OT: A once disgraced coach is making $160K at a N.J. school. But is it just to win games?

So he's getting paid $9k to coach (which is a normal coaching stipend I believe).

And then coincidentally he's also then hired for a new obscure position that pays him $150k.
Makes perfect sense.........

Someone tell me again how it's "greedy kids only looking out for themselves" that is causing all these atheltic department (college and now HS) deficits.

He was an excellent game day coach and probably would have gotten us to the Dance if he didn't get blackmailed

Rice, 55, would serve as "facilitator of athletic academic assistance/community resources".

That's some huge word salad for "no show" job just to get him to be their coach. That salary is higher than every vice principal in my school district and they actually do stuff. The people of this school district should be outraged in a time where they are cutting school budgets, teachers and classes.

I never really had a problem with what he did. It's not hard to make anyone look bad if you make a highlight tape of someone's angriest moments over a 2 year period. You could do that to any coach in America.

I blame pin head Barchi for his piss poor leadership during all of that. "Uh I couldn't find the school when those tapes were released!"

Has Mike Rice paid his dues / endured his punishment ?

Is he worthy to say land an assistant coaching gig?

I always liked / respected Rice. Would love to see him land an assistant coaching gig - albeit I think that boat has shipped away !

Mike Rice stepped to the microphone and soaked in a hearty ovation.

This was a new start for the once embattled coach. He had just been approved as the Linden High School boys basketball coach, the next chapter in a career that began with such promise
Good for him
