Anyone else get this ? My scam detector is going off. email comes from domain "publishingconcepts.com". Why would you need to verify you're an alumni ?

IMPORTANT RUTGERS ALUMNI VERIFICATION NOW DUE
Please Call 1-855-912-0532 in the Next Five Days

Time is running out on an important Rutgers University project. We recently sent you a notice in the mail because verification of alumni information is now due for all Rutgers University graduates. According to our records, your alumni file has not been confirmed for the alumni directory project.

Please call 1-855-912-0532 in the next 5 days. All it takes is a quick confirmation of your alumni data so I can mark your file "VERIFIED."

Why is your verification so important? Your verification will help complete the upcoming Rutgers University Alumni Directory as well as establish benchmarks for university career placement, government grant applications, and national rankings.

Please call Publishing Concepts (PCI) at 1-855-912-0532 to take care of this important matter today or ask any questions about the project. PCI is a trusted partner of the Rutgers University Alumni Association. If you recently verified your alumni data, thank you for your prompt assistance. We are planning to print the information we have on file if we do not receive an update from you so please contact PCI today.

Sincerely,

It's not a scam but a marketing tactic to get you to respond and solicit donations.

It also verifies that your contact info is active and current - thus enabling them to tap the database for "active" addresses for future fund raising and solicitation efforts.

My guess is that they "also" want to sell you an alumni book/register
That's what they did with me and I declined. Odd that in 2015, they sell an alumni directory in a book. They offered the option of getting the directory on a flash drive too. Why not just put it on the internet in a secure site?

This is also the only method that Alumni Relations has to update your contact information so that when either the RUAA or your Chartered group want to do outreach for events, etc., they have the correct information.

You can easily go online to the RUAA website and update your contact info. Then, disregard the "past due" emails unless you want to make a purchase/donation.

it is not a scam, this company is doing this for a ton of schools, it is this big yearbook/who's who type of thing. You do not have to buy it. It is not coming from Rutgers itself.

Its the same as "Important Notice about your credit cards"
"Important notice about your gas bill"
"Important Notice about your auto insurance"

On point. This is completely legit. There are lots of universities doing this now.

Point of reference regarding the book. That is intended for alumni who are not tech-savvy and for alumni working groups that want a historical record of alumni to reference.
