OT. As a Met fan, I'm furious if true.

Boomer and Carton are talking about, and they are trying to get Eddie Coleman to confirm that Yoenis Cespedes doesn't stand for the National Anthem. If that's true, screw him, I don't want the Mets to sign him long term. He leaves a Communist country to gain freedom and make millions, and then disrespects our nation by doing this? Man I sure hope this isn't true because I think he's a key piece going forward for the Mets to be a power team for the next 5 years with that pitching.
 
The guy is listed as 29 years old. He probably is 33 or 34. His production may only last 2-3 years. I don't want the Mets to give this guy more than a 3 year deal. Let the Giants have him if he'll only sign for at least 5 years.
 
Who cares. I don't even see a reason to play national anthems at sporting events, that is other than marketing for the sport, which in the end is why they do it.

I haven't been or watched a lot of games lately, if the home team is on the field before the game and standing on the foul line, he pretty much has to stand at home games....if the visiting team is in the dugout he could be sitting, and this would be disrespectful....would be curious as to why he would not want to honor our country, if true, considering all it has done for him.
 
Looked for info on this - and first thing that popped up was a picture from last year of the guy standing respectfully with his hat over his heart ... so unsure of what the true deal is ...

You wonder if it's something along the lines of: he didn't stand, for whatever reason, a couple times.

And given that they play 162 games a year, + spring training games, is it such a crime to miss a couple?

This. It has nothing to do with patriotism and only makes you look stupid.
Yeah, everybody stands for the National Anthem out of patriotism. And the nation is watching and appreciates your show of patriotism. It's also how we tell who isn't a patriot.
Also, those who sing along the loudest are obviously the biggest patriots. And if you don't know the words.....well, let's just say you should be checked out for your sympathies.

As an American you should realize that its his right to stand or not to stand. You don't have to agree with it but in the end does it really matter if he didn't stand a few times? Is it any worse than the people who do stand and talk during it or the people who don't take off their hats?

The Mets should do the risky thing and not try to sign Cespedes...nothing to do about the subject of the thread. The guy is an enormous talent and is playing at a real high level. However, I am not confident with a contract and year 2 with the Mets in a full 162 game season he is very risky and volatile. I see him wearing out his welcome real quick.
 
He stands, or did at the last game I went to two weeks ago (I only know because my son was making me point him out).
 
I find it far more offensive that people cajole us into standing for garbage like God Bless America. Also, it is a far greater affront to the National Anthem that the pop-tarts of the week they bring in to sing the thing have no clue what they are doing.

Play the music and let the people sing. Or not sing. Who cares?

The other teams did not have to sign him - he was under contract. I have heard that the Tigers will go after him.

The fact that he was traded may have ben the result of the unusual clause in his contract which meant that the team he was on when the contract ended would only have a week to sign him and would not receive a draft pick when he signed with someone else. He was able to negotiate this clause since he had leverage when he signed 4 years ago. However that clause has been removed since it is in his best interest to not exclude the Mets from the bidding.

He has displayed a great attitude with the Mets and will be in demand this off season.
 
Who cares? I think it's funny how people complain that America is too PC when it comes to racism and sexism, and then threads like this pop up. I don't take my hat off during the National Anthem. Egads!
 
He doesn't run out strike 3 balls that the catcher loses or that fly back to the wall. Otherwise he's been a gem.
 
Maybe he, along with Cuban Americans everywhere are outraged that the USA has reopened diplomatic ties with the Castro regime. If you know any Cuban people, ask them what they think about it.

Still no excuse to disrespect the country, but that could explain how the report could be true now, when it hasn't been in the past.

The Cubans I know are either ambivalent (the older generation) or think its a positive step forward in a new strategy (the younger generation). But yes I know many older Cubans in Jersey and Florida are not happy.

That being said, I think this is a big hoax or a big he missed it once and now let's sensationalize it.

So I like women and some don't. To each his own I say to you. My avatar has nothing to do with disrespecting your free existence thanks to heros that died to protect your existance and that you owe your gratitude to. That's what that one minute represents that God forbid you have stand for. That's the crusade.

He has done this a few times. However, the most recent time, when it got the most press, you can watch him looking at the ump with surprise that he was called out as he checked his swing. It is hard to run to first on the third strike if you don't know it is the third stike. The ball bounced hard back to the catcher so by the time he was cognizant of the situation there was no point running.

The playing of the national anthem started as a war time nationalism. The idea of getting offended at a non-citizen should be punished for not proving his american nationalism is odd to me. Especially as the "offensive" act doesn't even seem to have occurred.

I was out of the house, sorry I can't be at your disposal 24/7. Like I said,heard it this morning, left before Boomer and Carton got hold of Eddie Coleman. I don't know how true or how frequent it's happened. I want the Mets to sign him, but this and some hustle issues have me a little concerned.
 
Several folks here I wouldn't to be in the foxhole with. Then again, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be in it anyway...:americanflag:

hope some of you aren't near me in 121...you'd know it though because I would have already told you to STFU and take your hat off (guess that's my right too).

I was pretty liberal during my time on the banks...but being disrespectful was not part of it.
BTW, you're allowed on my lawn. Just be sure to piss in the woods.
