OT- Bad blood between Abby Wambach and Men's Soccer team :

Abby Wambach is obnoxious. Couldn't stomach all the credit she got during last summer's World Cup win. She got about as much playing time as the Monmouth Bench Mob.

ESPN cared more about her "story," as they had with others in the past, than giving credit to those who were winning big games left and right over the years (see: Miss Lloyd).

In all fairness she is the the all time leading scorer in the history of women's soccer. So she earned the right for her story to be told.

The bad blood goes back to when she started ragging on the foreign born National team guys as not being American etc. Etc.

There is alot of bad blood just with her and her big mouth

Her story being told is one thing (not that the news was exactly shocking or anything) and I had/have no problem whatsoever with that, however.... being talked about almost non-stop throughout the WC was another and, IMHO, quite annoying by the end of the month.

Trash talking comes out in sports when results aren't there to show anything

Really? I've honestly never heard this said in my life. Now, you better back up your trash talking, with results, no doubt. Michael Jordan was one of the biggest trash talkers in the game, never shut up, and I'm pretty sure his "results" were "there." Plenty of other examples, too, from both individuals and teams (see: Miami Hurricanes football for about 20 years...).

I was never really a trash talker when I was an athlete. I generally went the act like you've been there route. Only exception was when wrestling against a rival who the first time he wrestled me beat me and talked shit .

Never beat me again in 4 years and talked shit back each of the 6 times I beat him after that first match including a district final

The hypocrisy is that while Wambach criticized foreign-born American male players, her teammate
Sydney Leroux was born in Canada and spurned her native country to play for the USA.

Can't compare men vs women in soccer. Women aren't treated equally in many other countries and therefore aren't given the same funding, access, and resources as the USWNT.

Meanwhile, the situation is reversed on the men's side where even third world countries produce better players than the USMNT simply because it's that country's number one sport and the "supply chain" is a well oiled machine. It's not even a top 3 sport in the US. At least not yet...

It's small fish in tiny bowl vs medium fish in the ocean.

I guess your right since she was just busted for DUI last night
Now she'll complain that if she were a famous MALE athlete they would have just given her a warning.

Very good point about how the US Women have an easy road compared to the men. Title IX has resulted in US female athletes having great advantage over women from most of the rest of the world, save China, perhaps.

How about this.. if the US Womens team can beat the mens team, they get paid more.

On a more serious note.. look at the very big picture. If the womens team does bring in more in sponsorship, TV revenue, gear sales, results payouts.. they should be paid accordingly. On the other hand, if it is a case where the US Mens team has to pay at a certain level or they will not attract the top players, then this is really market forces at work. the women are cheaper to hire because they are willing to work for less.. perhaps because they have fewer entities (or less well-funded entities) competing for their services.

Perhaps the women should boycott. Strike. Test the waters.. see what they are worth.

Actually, she completely owned up to the DUI. Said it was a mistake on her part and apologized to everyone. Said it would not happen again.

Seemed like a heartfelt apology. But I never understand the part about "I take full responsibility" you always see in these apologies. If you have too much to drink and then get behind the wheel of a car, who else could there possibly be to take "responsibility" for that?
You. That's it. No need to say you take full responsibility. We know you are fully responsible.
Ok. just a little cranky this morning. Hungover. And I take full responsibility for that. And it will happen again. But I wasn't driving. :)
