Has anyone been here in Belmar? Any feedback on the beer? The atmosphere. May look to stop by this weekend.

Thanks in advance!

Never been, but I can't imagine how you can go wrong with a brewery at the beach. Might have to check it out next time I'm in Jersey. Thanks for mentioning it.

Not exactly at the beach. Corner of 10th and Main Street in Belmar. Have not been there, as I don't drink. But the building, which was really run down as Freedman's Bakery, has been modernized. There is a second floor balcony overlooking the corner at 10th Ave.

Haha, it's all in perspective, man. When your nearest beach is like a 15-hour drive away, any town with a shoreline is "at the beach." I guess I've been out of Jersey too long, or I would have said "can't go wrong with a brewery down the shore."

Bennie lol.

Hey! I'm within walking distance to beach. Even when I lived in Randolph, NJ, I did not consider myself a Bennie. Raises a question--people who live in Western Monmouth and Ocean in towns like Jackson, Plumsted, New Egypt, Manalapan, Howell, Freehold, Marlboro, Colts Neck and Engishtown--are they Bennies? Are you not a Bennie only if you live in a town that borders the beach?

Generally, western Monmouth folks who are originally from the area don't consider themselves bennies, since we don't take the Parkway to get to the shore.

It was a joke about you being a whole mile away. Relax.

I've been here for over 20 years after living in places like W Orange, Randolph, Bedminster, and Flanders. I'm sure there are people who consider me a Bennie since I didn't grow up down here. Who cares anyway? It's a stupid term.

But there is some validity to the term. Locals tend to consider Bennies those who visit, act like jerks, litter, and complain how the food are "bettah" at home up nawth. Everybody who visits, behaves, and acts respectfully is welcome.

Back to the topic--I was surprised it took South Monmouth so long to get a brewery and brew pub. Wonder how the Beach Haus is doing.

It was nice to get out of the heat and enjoy a flight of cold beers. I won't kill them on their quality because I don't have enough beer snob merit badges to qualify. I sat inside, and the atmosphere was a little confusing. They were set up like a festhalle with picnic tables, but had Taylor Swift's Greatest Hits blasting on the PA system. Weird. We migrated to Asbury Festhalle & Biergarten after.

Very true. I probably used it as in "F'n Bennies" when I was picking up the two broken beer bottles in my driveway Sunday Morning.

As far as Beach Haus goes, the person I trust to advise me on tailgate beer selection isn't a huge fan. Calls it "ok"

Out west we call those types "Texans".

Their beer stinks unfortunately because they have such a good location.

This. In order to be a good brewery they need to make good beer. Major fail in this case.

If you want good local craft beer on the Jersey Shore then visit Kane or Carton nearby. Beach Haus is the Coors Light of NJ craft beers.

+1 on Kane.

I had something by them at D'Arcy's the last time I was there. I can't remember which one but it was pretty good.

He's doing fine.

I like the new spot better.

You need to stop following me around. The new shop has more room, and Pat was finally able to properly display his varied collection of Godfather, Dirty Harry and other assorted movie and music pictures. Place gets crowded at times, but the wait and the banter are always entertaining.

Winter Rental is a decent brew and not available now. The rest of their lineup is bad.

Kane by far the best brewery in NJ. Head High will start being canned and released in the Fall which is exciting.

A bunch of my buddies are going to tour the Carton Brewery in a few weeks in my old home town. Also might make a stop at Belford Brewing. Has anyone tried that?

Where is Kane, hiw do you visit, is it a brewery or a bar?
Sorry, just curious, I'm out of the loop on beer, unless they make a non alcohol,,,lol

Funny you posted this...plan on heading to Beach Haus, Little Dog, and Kane Brewing this weekend. I really want to head to Flying Fish brewery in Somerdale, I've been really liking there line up lately. Has anyone been to Flying Fish??

It is a brewery in Ocean, NJ. Address is 1750 Bloomsbury Avenue . It's in an industrial park though so don't get confused when you visit. It feels like you're visiting a doctor but then the rooms opens into the brewery.

I had that at a fundraiser at my older boy's school in the Fall.

It was pretty good.
That is the sad part about it. Their best beer is a seasonal so it's availability is limited and at best it's just pretty good.
Local breweries have a great opportunity IF they make a quality product. The movement to local craft beer is at its peak. You have too make a good to great beer to get people excited and if you do you will have loyal customers for life. Every brewery in the country doesn't have to become the next Sierra Nevada. To be successful you only have to win the local market.
I am very happy to be in this business and even more lucky that 4 blocks from my house is one of the great new breweries in the country. Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company makes award winning beers and just celebrated their 3rd Anniversary.
But the owners, besides being great guys, worked hard to learn the complete business prior to opening the brewery. From my understanding Beach Haus went from home brewers to opening. Very hard to do. Not that it can't be done but I wouldn't bet on their success.
For the South Jersey crowd I would recommend a trip to Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company it about a mile from the Burlington Bristol Bridge in Croydon PA.
Others for the South Jersey shore are Tuckahoe Brewing and Cape May Brewing

I'm still pissed that the Beach Haus booted out my long time barber, Pat. He's now located in the Belmar Plaza.
I know Pat from high school I went to school with his cousin. I also lived in Belmar. Have moved and he still is my barber. His new place is much nicer but sucks because he's not on Main St. for foot traffic

We drive 30+ minutes for Pat to cut our hair. One time Pat was closed, and I said to my son we will go to another barber, and he wanted to wait a week because Pat is the only person who has cut his hair.

This board never ceases to amaze with knowledge/feedback. Thanks for the Kane recommendation. Did not know about it before.

Glad to find this post. Was just talking to the fellas at Pine Creek Liqours who had a raffle for a free tour and tasting there. Said the owner (who is on the cover of a mag for winning the Philly Brew Award) is a former South Hunterdon HS grad and friends with the owner. I thought it might have been you since I recall you winning something lately yourself.

Have never had a good beer by Nesheminy creek. North west jersey peoe should take a ride and a growler to angry Erick in Lafayette

You are certainly in the minority. Great American Beer Fest Gold Medal winner. Two time Philly Beer Scene Brewer of the year. Brewery of the Year this year.
But everyone has their own pallette. That why we sell over 1000 different brews.
For the most part most people will find something to love at Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company.

I live in Belmar and have been to the brewery I have to be honest and say I was not a fan of their beer. I love beer and enjoy all styles from IPAS to Stouts ect... There is just nothing that sets the beer apart and they all have a funky after taste that reminds me of a home brew kit I made on Stone street lol as far as the tour and atmosphere it truly depends on the day you go. the staff is cool and the up stairs bar area is neat esp when the weather is nice you can hang out outside.
