Since we probably ain't bowling my wife told me that my 40th birthday present is a trip to any bowl game I want. Only caveat is whole family will be in tow with me. Also, football is the point of the trip so not going to Orlando just because of Disney or Bahamas to watch crap football. Obviously, the Rose Bowl jumps out but the whole playoff thing throws in a wrinkle. In no order, I've gone back and forth with:
The Rose bowl
Playoff game in Dallas....gets bonus points because I can go to heart of Dallas bowl as well.
Sugar bowl
Fiesta Bowl...wife loves Arizona

Anybody been to any of these. Any other suggestions.

Go to the Rose Bowl. The pageantry, with the parade that morning and then the game (and it will be a B1G team), all the festivities and something about New Years and College Football.

It's only my 40th..could I be around to see RU in my first Rose Bowl?

Sugar Bowl is hands down the best. Bourbon street, the celebratory atmosphere, great food, there's nothing like it. Sugar bowl is what every bowl game atmosphere should be.

1. Sugar
2. Arizona
3. Pasadena
4. Texas

I like the idea if the sugar. Don't know much about Bourbon Street outside if Girls Gone Wild but can I sit at a pub and watch New Year's Day games with my 10, 8, and 7 year olds?

Depends on what your agenda is.

If you want the game itself & all the "bowl" related activities than the Rose Bowl is your choice.

If you want to go on a party trip than New Orleans & the Sugar Bowl is the target

If you want to go see what is generally a high scoring, fun game to watch & can squeeze in a couple days of golf then it's a trip here to the Valley for the Fiesta

Well there are 2 agendas at play. My football agenda and the wife's family agenda. No kids in tow I'd probably go to Nashville get drunk and watch good football in the freezing rain. That being said, this is the complicating factor. Son would rather watch two games in Dallas. Daughters would love the Rose Bowl Parade. I like roaming around bourbon street. If it was easy I wouldn't post the thread.

If money is not a major concern:

Primary factor---- Go to a destination you would like to visit!
You mentioned crap football. Remember that crap football can be played in any Bowl, and the flip-side, awesome football can also be played in any Bowl. A major Bowl is not going to guarantee a great football game!

Remember last years inaugural Bahamas Bowl between Central Michigan and Western Kentucky? It was a fantastic game!

Secondary factor----- If it were me, I would probably go to a Bowl that has a tie-in with either the B1G or the MAC because I enjoy watching those two conferences play football. It's not called MACtion for nothing... MAC games have a tendency to be pretty darn exciting.

Again, the quality of the football game is a crap shoot, so go someplace you wish to visit, and also watch conferences that interest you.

I hope this helps.

Valid point. When I wrote the Bahamas quote I remembered how exciting that game was last season.
