I tried BTN2Go before with roku, hoping I could watch football games. Unfortunately, football is not in the streaming package. Assuming that's still the case, I think you're stuck with cable for BTN football. On the other hand, if you want some other sports like men's/women's soccer and, I think, wrestling then streaming can still work for you.
And the Playstation Vue app is now available on Roku.Playstation Vue offers BTN in its middle package.
Anyone actually use playstation vue? I ask because I've done nfl sunday ticket through my playstation for 2 straight seasons and the quality of the picture sucks, there's a bad lag, AND occasionally you get no connectivity and can't even watch the event (like if it's a hot game with alot of viewers). Curious about whether that's the deal with Vue too
For those of you that have cut the cord, who do you use for internet service? do you still go with the cable company?
That is my concern with cord cutting...If I have to keep cable for my internet provider at approx. $45 plus the cost of what ever other service I get, right now the playstation vue is around $45...I'm right around the cost of cable TV, when you bundle.cable has the best and fastest internet.

What is the advantage?
Sports are slowly getting better.Probably none if it comes out to the same price. However, keep in my mind, many of the bundles have the promotional prices (e.g. 2 years) so if the price shoots up in 2 years are you still at the same cost? Also, it depends on the cost of the equipment you are renting. Can you go from 3 cable boxes (usually extras in bundles) down to a Roku and an iPad? Etc etc
Traditionally, cord cutting is worth it when you aren't adding a de facto cable service like Vue. Pay for the internet, get an HD antenna (broadcast channels then free) and then something like $10/mo Netflix and $10/mo HULU and now you are saving $25 a month with arguable more and better content. The problem is the sports.

I "cut the cord" and dropped my bill from $190 to $90. I get everything except Rangers hockey that I watched previously. If you try to recreate what you have with cable you will end up paying more, but if you are stuck with tons of channels that you never watch you can save $20-$50 a month. If you have no morals you can break the law and pay a lot less than that by stealing everything for free.
I have fios 50/50 and haven't had any problems or hiccups using Playstation Vue. I have my playstation connected via ethernet directly to my LAN, so I can't comment on the quality of the wireless streaming, but that will be largely dependent on your internet speed, router, distance from router, etc.
I don't watch a ton of TV other than sports and to occasionally satisfy my HGTV addiction, so I was happy to go without cable. My wife on the other hand.. So we tried out Vue free for a week and haven't looked back. If you're looking to cut the cord, then Vue is one of the best options out there in terms of ease of use and not requiring a lot of setup. You get live TV, DVR (which is something Sling doesn't offer, as far as I know), and the ability to watch Vue on five other devices simultaneously.
As mentioned, you get a ton of sports channels, including YES Network on the middle tier. I don't believe they currently offer NFL Network/Redzone, but I read that should be coming shortly. Also, depending on if you're in certain markets (Philly or NYC for example) you will get the live local CBS/NBC/ABC channels. Another nice feature is that you can use your Vue login information to access most streaming services offered by the the basic networks and the sports networks that you are subscribed to (NBCSN for Premier League, FS1 for.. whatever FS1 shows, and I imagine BTN2GO, although I haven't confirmed that yet). All together I think I pay ~$60/mo -- $45 for Vue and $15 for fios, until my two year discount expires.

Do I need to buy a PlayStation device or can I use my Roku. How much does the PlayStation device cost and are there different models to consider? (I'm not a gamer). Will I get ESPN, espn2, and espnu? And please confirm that you get BTN with PlayStation vue.
I just mounted my digital antenna so I don't need the networks. I can use sling tv for YES but if I can get these with PlayStation vue, I'll drop sling. I'm almost ready to cut my cord but as everyone has mentioned, getting BTN is the rub.
I'll never understand why people think cutting the cord means not paying the cable company for TV service but then turn around and pay Sony for Vue, Verizon for Fios, DISH for SlingTV, Netflix, HBO Now or whatever. All your doing is redirecting how you are spending your money on video consumption. You can certainly save money by doing it and get less channels that you don't wach, but you're not cutting any cord like someone who has turned off their wired phone line and only has a wireless phone. In all of those cases (except for Fios who supplies internet service as well as video service) you are still paying someone (likely a cable company) for your internet service anyway.
