OT: Cam gets a lesson in sportsmanship

The funny thing is that some of us have seen post-Super Bowl interviews of 49 other losing quarterbacks. And not one of them behaved as Cam did. The arrogance to think that the other 49 just didn't want it as bad as Cam and consequently weren't as upset as Cam was postgame is hard to take.

This was said about Peyton after losing the Super Bowl in 2010:
That Time Peyton Manning Was A Bad Sport And Barely Anyone Cared
>"Apparently some think this is a sign of poor sportsmanship from the NFL's greatest player. It's not. Walking off the field without congratulating Drew Brees may go against our misguided notion of what sportsmanship should be, but it wasn't at all disrespectful or bitter. It shows how much Peyton Manning wanted to win the game. And who can argue about that?<

I don't like him but he might be getting a bum rap for acting the way he did at the interview.

Hmmmmmmm

At the opposite end of the adulation of great poor-sport athletes, when Tiger walked off the course mid-round directly to his car, half of the golfing world and all of the golfing media continued to fawn over him, even with all of his other baggage.

He is a classless athlete. Glad my entire super bowl party guests were rooting for Denver.

Other players have done the same thing and while I don't condone it I also think the tradition of mid field handshakes is kind of silly for grown men. That being said, my issue with Cam is that he loves the media, he loves the press, the podium, and talking after his big wins and AMAZING performances. If you want to be this bigger than life Superman Persona than you have to own up to it when things go wrong. On the flip side, I don't think the NFL should force a guy like Marshawn Lynch to do interviews when it really isn't his thing or in his comfort zone.

I wasn't talking about any handshake with the winning quarterback. I was just talking about the postgame interview, where one gets to speak to the media, your fans, and the public in general. I know it's hard. But I can't recall another losing qb acting that way after the big game..

Actually if you guys could get over your hatred of Cam Newton which I'm sure began a long time ago, you would have seen him smiling and congratulating Peyton Manning on the field after the game. His walk out of the press con was because he was seated next to a Bronco player loudly bragging about how they shut Cam and the Panthers down. Cam was hearing this a decided he had enough. So all you Cam haters just keep on hating!

Although this is funny, no one wants to sit around answering stupid questions from the media. People love to crap on Cam because he is loud, well he has to take it from a lot of people, but no way do I think he has to stand there and listen to the most MORONIC questions being asked. He graciously congratulated Manning.

He's a young guy. Hopefully, that whole episode was a learning experience. We'll see. For perspective, his interview took place in a media center with bunches of interviews/conversations going on all around him. Apparently, a Bronco's defensive player was being interviewed very near Newton, and the Bronco indicated that their defensive scheme was geared toward the run and the line, effectively stating the Broncos did not think Newton and his passing game could beat them. They were right. Newton heard this conversation. He knew they were right. It devastated him. There in that moment, he broke. Defeated. Ashamed.
