Thought this was interesting, and have lost track on the plans for renovation of Jersey Mike's Arena:

The Pavilion was a different place the last time Seton Hall played there. It’s been renovated and expanded, with a beautiful concourse added. But the student section, once a fearsome wall behind one basket, has been split in half and seems far less intimidating. And the Tuesday’s crowd was meager by Villanova standards – no more than 5,000 seats filled out of 6,500.

For years, this place was an earsplitting house of pain. It was far from that Tuesday.

I actually thought the pavilion was really nice. Went there this year for one of Novas games and had a much different take than carino.
The student section was rocking and
Completely packed. Seemed like they were all in unison on pre-game and in game cheers and songs. I actually felt they were more of a collective unit than our student section. Our students really get represented by the first 3 rows and everyone else after that is just there to cheer. Much different at Nova.

Can’t speak to the attendance as it was a packed house when I went but many fans were complaining about the coach and the team even then so I’m sure interest has leveled off.

While I thought the arena was easier to get around than the RAC and seeks much more upgraded it really had a high school type vibe to it sitting in the stands. The concourse was beautiful and very spacious but felt it didn’t scream big time.

I don’t know what it is but our student section has fallen apart in the last few years. To your point, NOTHING in unison. You get that feeling that half of them don’t even want to be there. Very strange.

It’s disjointed due to the constant piped in crap. Next big game watch the crowd, not just the students. When the Ozzy Osborne trash is blaring everyone, students included, look like they’re in a doctors waiting room. When the speaker trash finishes there is little organic/spontaneous energy. Fire the psu hack that brought us this crap.

PS - in the past it was the band that charged the fans up. It’s not happening today for the same reasons as above.

also consider this...

2021...when these current seniors were frosh, there were no games at the RAC
2022...we wore ****ing masks..wtf were we doing....losses to Nebby, Iowa, NW, Michigan
2023....season was a disappointment, home games were not all that fun

so not the best of group to have as senior students. Now add in all the piped in stuff that has grown exponentially and there you go.

Yea he’s right, they destroyed the student section. Be careful with the RAC, this could happen to us

That’s my fear as well. Dont thing ringing the students around the court was ever the answer.
I suppose Standing Room only could work but Piscataway FD would raise a hissy fit.
Agree with the piped in music stuff.
And enough with Ozzy Osborne crap.
Diminishing our pep band which is quite good is just dumb.

Your timeline is off. There were no fans during the '20-'21 season - when current college seniors were seniors in high school.

2021...no fans...team makes tourney, best year
2022..big wins but we were wearing ****ing masks and required vaxes which definitely effected the experience
2023...season ends a disappointment with many home losses in 2nd half of year
2024....sub 500 season

Not the same as Nova. The plans, while "ringing" the court, DO NOT remove students from behind the basket. It actually ADDS seats into the corners.

A lot has to do with the current product too.
Exactly. Almost all fan bases are front runners to some extent. There aren’t many places like Nebraska, who packs them in with a mediocre product for football every year because of long ago past glory.
