Finally!!!! In something that I think was long overdue one of the 10,000 committees that can induct players now voted Fred McGriff unanimously into the HOF. 493 HRs, over 1500 RBIs and nearly 2500 hits.
I've always thought he belonged. A guy who came to work every day and was a model of consistency and a model citizen. You need 12 out of the 16 committee members. Mattingly received 6 votes.
Congratulations Crime Dog!!!!!!

Do you think there will be less prestige with these ‘contemporary’ or the ‘senior’ entrants ?

Also, why are these second-chance, alternate ballots even a thing ? Isnt BBWAA adequate ?

I always thought both Albert Belle and Don Mattingly were better players that both Baines and McGriff

Awful decision. McGriff is textbook for the Hall of the Very Good. Not as bad as Baines, but still pretty bad.

You know why? Because both Belle and Mattingly (when healthy) were MUCH better players than Baines and McGriff. I understand why Mattingly is on the fringe, only 5 elite seasons. However, Belle not being in the HOF is the biggest disgrace. But, but, but.....he was mean to reporters.

LOL!

McGriff has numbers but to me, he just always passed the eye test as well. Much much better than Blaine’s.
Mattingly, it is a shame, when healthy, one of the best ever both with the bay and glove. But, just not enough. Though, if his body even allowed him just 2-4 more just average years, those magic 5 would have done it for him.
Belle- it is a joke. They just need to change the whole system- media should not be allowed.

I disagree. But I have a bias towards McGriff. Was one of my favorite players of that era
Congrats on McGriff getting in. Career stats of .280BA 493HR 1550RBI. Compare those to Carlos Delgado .280BA 473HR 1512RBI and Andres Galaraga .288BA 399HR 1425RBI. Do we now put those other two in as well? I still am of the opinion that HOF should only be for the best of the best. I watched all these guys in their prime and while very good players, none in my opinion are HOF worthy.

I think crime dog gets out over the edge due to the groundbreaking and legendary Tom Emanski baseball commercial that played every 30 minutes on ESPN for the entire 90s.

So was Ted Williams.

That’s how I always do it too. Especially when it’s not an easy one because of the lack of overwhelming HoF type stats.

But in this case, not so sure.🤷‍♂️

No sign of Paul Konerko. The Hall will be further diluted because players will get in for being close to someone who has made it. If Keith Hernandez gets in Mark Grace should also. Then we get to Mickey Vernon and eventually Wally Joyner

The o LT thing is- while Grace was a good fielder, Keith may have been the best ever. Fits into an Ozzy Smith type of consideration.
I think both fit into the “almost” category though. But with Ozzy being in for his glove, Keith should get the same consideration
