Going to try to get to games at schools I have never been to before. Been to lots of schools, but never made it to Morgantown when we used to play them. For those that have been there, is it worth a trip? Hoping to get to The Swamp for a Gators game with my nephew this year and at some point, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Nebraska.

Getting a hotel anywhere near Morgantown on the weekend of a home game is near impossible, when we went we would stay in Frostburg Maryland, which is 60 miles from Morgantown & an easy drive on the interstate for the game. Park at the Elks Club up the hill from the stadium.

Yes I have.
Big games yes it’s worth it.
Backyard brawl is there this year and it’s definitely worth it.

I have. My mom’s side of the family is from WV. My cousins are WV alumni. My uncle used to have a box at Milan Pulskar and when we went up, we drove up and stayed overnight at a hotel where Ray Pilch’s family was staying. Had a great discussion. I was told before the game to remove my hat and hide it since being in the box with my block R hat would be “a bad idea”. We had brunch before the game in the booster club area which overlooks the training center.

It was worth it for me.

Went in 2006 and stayed in Washington, PA about 45-50 mins away, as there was nothing closer.

My daughter graduated from WVU, so I've been to a few games. Saw Geno Smith have his career game with six(?) TD passes. Highlight was the mother of one of her classmates do a kegstand. Mad skillz..

I stayed outside of town for better accommodations at a very reasonable price.

Went once and only once. 2006. We didnt stay over but there is a hotel pretty much right outside the parking lots. I don't remember the name. but we got there early so we parked there and watched some games in their lobby before ours. The walk to their stadium was by far the worst I have ever experienced. Keep in mind- we are an interracial couple. the absolute derogatory comments were beyond anything I have heard anywhere. Their threats of what they would do to my BB(take a guess) were reprehensible. One of the players families could not get tickets with other families and were only able to get tickets on their own - what that crowd did to that family was something that had them in tears when we saw them after the game.

But hell- other than all that- great place to watch the game.................................Any WVU fan is a POS

A long, long time ago when I was still in school: their band hosted a busload of us who went down for a game.

Sorry to hear you and your wife went through that. I lived in the South for three and a half years. The difference I noticed is that people down there will just openly say stuff—“we don’t go there, it is a black restaurant”, “ no, we don’t go to that church because it is a white church.” In the Northeast, people keep these thoughts to themselves or say them when they think it is “safe.” I used to work with a woman in her 30s from Middletown originally and she constantly talked about her “failure” of a husband because he didn’t make enough for her kids to go to private high schools and they had to go to a public high school in Howell with Hispanics. She bashed everybody—Jews, Catholics ( she didn’t know I was Catholic) , Hispanics, the “ curry eaters”, and blacks. I never heard her say the N word, but she did use the M word. There are kind people everywhere and there are jerks everywhere.—Very glad that you got home without any physical altercation.

I remember you posting about such back then and it made me angry then and angry now. Racism was never "over" and it still is far from over, sadly.

I went with my then 12-year old son to that game and while the game was a heartbreaking loss it was still a fantastic game to watch. We got a few catcalls on our walk in and walk out, but nothing terrible, but I do remember seeing some drunken WVU fans further away from our walk getting into it with a couple of RU fans.

I was there in 2006 as well. Very cold night and a very tough loss. To say the mountaineer fans were not gracious winners would be an understatement. They were downright nasty.

My wife went to WVU so we have been several times over the past 20 years.

We are advance planners and have never encountered issues getting tickets, hotels, parking, etc.

I think it is very well worth it. Great place to see a game. Tremendous school spirit, although the previously massive crowds have thinned over the last few years , I guess due to largely mediocre results.

I watched the '06 game on tv.the refs stole that one for the home team

Went to a game there. If you plan months ahead you can get a hotel. We were actually there for Pat White and slaton’s coming out party. Problem is we missed it. They were getting killed by Louisville and we left. Then Rich rod put the two freshman in and they frantically came back to win. Pain was made worse by finding out they are one of the few places that allows reentry and we just didn’t know it. But we did get to watch the USC ND rush push at the Applebees across from the stadium. And Friday night we got to watch a shooting downtown.
But other than that. It’s a great place to watch a game but fans can be rough. Really crappy drive to get to.
As for Florida. They are either renovating their stadium this season or next and all games will be in Orlando. So if he graduates in next two years better plan around that

That's an April Fool's joke
They're not playing in Orlando

It’s a place to go at least once. Went in 2006 also. Cool bar named Chicken Bones. Stayed in Morgantown because accommodations were booked ahead.

I was stationed in Elkins WVA back in 1944.We used to play touch FB.So Yes. I did see a game in WestVirginia
It might be more correct to say you played in a game in West Virginia 🙂

Saw a Steeler preseason game there years ago. Town was a blast. Ended up sleeping in a dorm room with some very lovely co-eds. Got a lot of dirty looks leaving in the morning, as apparently it was an all girls floor. Lost our buddy (pre-cell phones) and found him the next morning, sleeping in his truck in the middle of a now empty field. What a blast. But so many hills. Not great hungover.
