OT: Fordham loses by 6 at GW

And they hired a coach from Eastern Kentucky that people questioned with no NY ties. and his roster was depleted, best player transferred to Nova, but shows you a true college coach can get the most out of his players and the hand he's dealt

Last years team under Pecora would lose by ... Well about by as many points as us this year.

Fordham plays tough defense. A coach can definitely encourage his players to play better on defense. It is a mindset. The same is true with rebounding.

This is from a thread I posted about the about a month back with link to an article...

If there has been any program around as bad as Rutgers in the last two decades, it is them. Woefully overmatched in the A10 much like Rutgers has been woefully overmatched in the Big East and Big 10. Fordham has not made the NCAA since 1992 and has 12 twenty plus loss seasons since the

So I didn't know this but Fordham has a new coach named Jeff Neubeur, they are 7-1 despite losing their top player to transfer and they hired a guy that no one even knew who he was. A run at Eastern Kentucky where he made the NCAA a few times and an assistant under Beilen at Richmond and WVU and not from the area. He came in energetic and not intimidated by the challenge and got the players to buy in and stop the losing culture in their minds. True they haven't played a league game yet and they haven't exactly played a tough schedule but they beat St Johns and they beat Central Connecticut State by 32 points. Yet RU lost to the former and struggled for 25 minutes with the latter.

You need to have a guy with energy and a plan. Don't let them tell you that no one can do it.

Eddie is the guy for us. His plan is just taking longer to come to fruition. He's building the program on a rock solid foundation. He's not taking any short cuts. He's doing it the right way.

Greg Whittington was a short cut
JJ Moore was a short cut
We have a few short cuts on the roster right now.

Real easy to go the 5th year senior road. Not easy to evaluate 15-20 under the radar types to find 1 or 2 targets. Out of all spots on the court the 2 guard should be the easiest to find. They are a dime a dozen.

this program wont succeed without short cuts or something dynamic to get it going. Jordan has a 5 year contract..its not getting extended

Our best two players are a JUCO and a player that most people think will be here two years at most. There are no Freshman recruits coming in. His record will probably be the worst it's been in three years... and that's after a 15-or so game losing streak to end the prior season. His teams don't rebound or play defense. If that's the right way, I'd hate to see the wrong way.

Praise the Fordham coach all you want, but if RU hied someone like him the Sky would be Falling according to many of the posters here.
Just about every College MBB HC is better than Eddie, until RU hires him .

Also, if I'm remembering right, Pecora was a name many recommended RU hired years ago when he was Hofstra's HC.
Seems like the recommendations for replacing the current RU HC ( before and after) Jordan will never end and just about every mid major HC is better than the one RU has at the time.
Rice was the exception and he almost ruined the program with his practice habits.
His teams did play competitively but his players weren't improving like they should have.
He wound up just another of the failures RU hired since Tom Young left

the reason this guy is brought up is to provide evidence that the excuses used for Jordan proponents exist at a school like Fordham..if any school is similar in the country to futility in hoops and placement in their league and facilities, its them. At Rutgers we say the task is so overwhelming it takes years and years and years. Well its early but Fordham is off to a 9-3 start after they were brutal last year, beat SJU and played some other solid programs close. The article talks about energy and culture change..something that really isn't coming from our staff

The excuse for the GW game was the vaunted 1-3-1 but we were the only team that played against it like a JV team.

That's the issue.

Eddie said in Wisconsin in will take a "long, long time" to change the culture but its 2016 and how many people feel good about the direction of the program? We had 61-point loss year 1 and back to back 30 point losses in Year 3 to good not great GW and SHU.

R U suggesting that Corey transfers year #3 or declares for the NBA draft?

Fordham beat La Salle tonight to move to 10-3

on another note St Johns went down to the wire with #11 Xavier falling short...Mullen seems to be showing some life with such an undermanned young team, how does he do it?

St John's has lost 6 in a row including Incarnate Word and NJIT .
Did beat Cuse and Rutgers , but also lost to Fordham .
From 7-3 the Red Storm is now 7-9, but should be considered better than Rutgers, but not a lock for the Dance [winking]

the point is that people preseason had said SJU had less talnent than Rutgers coming in, they had injuries and were picked for last in the Big East. They still suck but strong games against Xavier and yes the win over Cuse are something that those fans can hang their hat on in Mulllins first year...where is ours...with better talent...we blew a 13 point lead and one poster here INSISTED that Eddie coach a good game.

Don't forget he has a four-star transfer sitting out, a four-star PG as a partial qualifier and a 2016 four star NYC SG and JUCO All-American who happened to score 46 points (in 3OT) tonight. Help is on the way

Eddie was reportedly very close with Pervis but his kid goes to St John's. We can't compete on the recruiting trail at least around these parts and St. John's knows how to play the game and so does TCU which stole two of our targets.

Constantly bringing up other programs and coaches isn't doing anything but griping about how bad RU looks now. Don't need to look at other programs to know that fact.
St John's is fighting DePaul to stay out of last place
They are the only 2 BE programs with losing records.

Recruiting is something Mullins does well abnd seperates him from Jordan by a mile.
Won't say Eddie's as good for RU as Chris is for SJU, but feel Mullins has more to work with when it comes to supporting him and his program recruiting wise.
Won't say Mullins couldn't do a better job recruiting kids to RU than Jordan is doing, but since he's not the RU HC can't say if he would or would not recruit better with the type of support he would get and the tradition he would try to sell .

what is does is show that YES YOU CAN...Fordham is the example...YES YOU CAN even if you have been dreadful for year and YES YOU CAN..even if the guy no one has heard of. Sure they haven't done anything and gone to the tournament but when was the last time they started 10-3

Rutgers has been inept for many many years.
So whatever program you put against it, that program probably will look better.
Fordham has been down, but there is a difference in the conferences they are in compared to the BE and B1G where RU is not making its fans happy.
Fordham's 10-3 is a success story and deserves praise, just like Monmouth was getting on this board before they lost. They still deserve kudos in my book.
I'm sure if Fordham starts faltering, another MBB program will be put in as the latest sucess compared to how RU is to that school
