He seemed like a truly nice man.

As a kid in the 70’s in the Chicago-area, first saw him doing Saturday afternoon high school games and weekend sports on the local NBC affiliate, channel 5. I believe he grew up in Hyde Park, near U of Chicago. And was a Sox fan!! He was a great host for March Madness.

I hadn't realized he is thus far the only AA to have called a Super Bowl. While it's an honor and a tribute to Gumbel's professional skill that he was first, that's something the NFL should resolve.
