Anyone going to the biggest day in harness racing this Saturday. They went back to heats a couple years ago which makes it more interesting. Southwind Frank is the big favorite but there are a couple that could beat him. Strong undercard too with the Oaks, US Pacing Championship with Always B Miki vs Wiggle It Jiggle It, the Lady Liberty, Cane Pace, Cashman, Doherty, Haughton. Should be a great day for harness racing fans. Meadowlands needs that casino desperately as NJ and Christie have pissed away millions of dollars in revenue by letting PA and NY kick NJ ass in racing for 10 years..so foolish and the damage may be irreversable

Did you know that Scarlet Knight won the Hambletonian in 2001....

Bac, thanks for the link. I was gonna say after 'Scarlet Knight" the harness thing was all downhill from me. Used to live not that far from Lana Lobell. If I had millions always wanted to live around Burnt Mills Road in Bedminster.

Did the owners of "Scarlet Knightt" have a Rutgers connection? Were they fans of RU?

Never liked the trotters as it always appeared that the drivers could too easily manipulated the outcomes. That said one of the few times I went bet on Rambling Willie-who flew to 4th after seemingly being held back. Jockey later convicted of conspiring to fix "Wilie's" races.

My MBA cconsulting group project was for the NJSEA (after the RAA buried our original project based on outcomes of the previous study). That was in 1998. Our adsvisor? at that point (1998) said years before a prior project studied slots at the racetrsacks
20+ years ago.....)

The horse had no connection to Rutgers. In fact it was a Swedish horse who shipped in for the race and then went back to Sweden where he went on to become a very successful racehorse and then sire upon retirement, I think winning over $3 million dollars

I am going with my wife and son . Martin Truex is going to be there signing autographs and The Nerds will be providing the musical entertainment. Oh yea and there will be some horse racing.

Ash..its a damn shame that NJ politicians protected Atlantic City the way they did by not allowing a casino at the Meadowlands back in the day. The Meadowlands was the mecca of harness racing until Pennslyvania changed the game with its racinos around 2004..that gave them the money for higher purses especially in the sire stakes program, slowly but surely the NJ racing and the Meadowlands suffered as the top sires moved from NJ to PA and NY when they got slots as well. Trainers and drivers also bolted as did most of the top competition. Meadowlands runs just two nights now and their purses are lower than shitty tracks in NY and PA who have no handle. Yet the Meadowlands has the highest handle of any track go figure, if they were just be allowed to compete like the other tracks NJ never would have lost its horse farms and breeding industry. Christie and others killed it in a foolish plan to help AC with the failed Revel..a total disaster. Now the Meadowlands has a chance again with the casino referendum. South Jersey politicians fighting it like mad and the general public seems lukewarm for some reason but I urge everyone to vote yes to this referendum on November 8 as not only the harness horse industry but the thoroughbred industry not to mention open space depends on it.

BAC-thanks for the info and opinion./reasoning-have the ballot on my mind. I always though perhaps priority in North Jersey should be given to those already investged in AC. I DO remember how big the Meadowlands used to be. Was at the arena opening night 7/2/81 for my first (and best) full length concert ever-bRRRRRRUUUUUUce!

Too bad no money (and I still have to raise $200 to save my FB)-want to meet TRUex and wouldn't mind seeing the Nerds.

Hopefully the weather holds and we see some track records. Currently there is a blob in Allentown at 630am.

rock the Rac
