OT: How does Temple...

As RU fans, we are subjected to the worst kickers and special teams in the country.
The starting punters and place kickers on all the Ivy league teams are better than ours.

Harsh, but we do seem to have weird problems in that area now. I guess that is punishment for leading the country in blocked kicks for several years.

I was hoping Okruch would move on. As bad as Flood was I feel like our ST somehow deteriorated. Way too many missed EPs for example.

To be fair our punters got the best workout in FBS history this year...

I would not blame missed EP on the coach.

Our staff has a horrible track record over the last 7 years in recruiting Kickers.

Is he doing kickoff's too? Cause he just shanked one.
LOL nobody will notice the bad things a player from another school does just like they don't notice the good things our guys do. As Rutgers fans we are cursed with the loser mentality that has plagued our program for decades.

BTW, for those who were saying how great Temple was this year, make no mistake they would be getting whupped if they played our schedule. Granted we sucked this year but don't start saying how great all these other teams playing patsy schedules were.

Unless they play our schedule how would we know.

I fail to understand how our loser mentality as fans effects the recruitment of D 1 level place kickers and punters?

Maybe, but I think we can all agree they'd have more than two wins, and we would have not fared much better against their schedule- maybe a win or two more, but not even so sure.

Disagree. If RU played their schedule I see 5 likely wins:

UConn
Stoney Brook
Charlotte
Tulane
East Carolina (they had a bad season)

Possible 2 more:

SMU
UCF

I don't know...we had a very hard schedule, to be sure, but we also couldn't get on the board against a 2 win MSU team. I might boil your list down to which games were home/away and who was healthy. But in any case, we would have a losing season even in the AAC, which is really sad considering we should be leaps ahead of that at this time.

In the late 80s, I would vent my special teams frustrations like so:

"How can we have a top 10 soccer team and can't get a kid to kick a goddam football?" or
"1st and goal -- almost into field goal range!"

Everything old is new again.

So true, and sad. Ever the optimist, I look forward to is getting someone for next year.

How does Rutgers recruit long snappers, punters, and placement kickers? Do they rely on camps/specialist trainers in these areas to recommend specialists? Or do they rely on high school coaches to recommend players who are talented in these specialist areas but who choose not to attend or compete in the camps or use specialist trainers? I go to Lehigh and Rutgers home football games, and have for many years. Frankly, the Lehigh punters and placement kickers are more reliable and consistent and better than Rutgers. Go figure. Is it possible that Lehigh just does a better job of preparing their punters/kickers?

Yes, he was a walk on. We truly lucked out to have him, especially after our 1st stringer suffered a torn acl during a kickoff against Memphis.
