Unbelievable game last night in Ridgewood -- really hard fought by both teams. Pretty epic storyline
1st half - ridgewood really dominated play both physically and mentally. Hackensack QB fumbled inside the 10 and threw 2 picks which led to a 14-0 halftime lead for ridgewood. Hackensacks offense looked pretty listless in the first half, with the only big play resulting in a dropped ball on a perfectly placed pass on a 39 yard wheel route. Ridgewood D was really good in containing the hackensack O. Hackensack has two running backs -- one speed back and one power, and they run what looks like a wishbone alot of the time. Hackensacks qb is a Paramus catholic transfer and he's sort of a pat white analogue -- lanky, fast and throws darts. Unfortunately most of his best passes were to the ridgewood d in the first half. 2nd half
Hackensack comes out pissed. First possession they run the ball down the throats of ridgewood. First TD scored on a slant pattern. Momentum building. Hackensack forces a fumble and kid rips a 40 yard TD. Score tied at 14.
Fourth quarter comes and ridgewood makes a huge play on a double reverse. Then they hand off for a 40 yard touchdown run to make it 21-14. Hackensack responds with a couple big runs and a dart to the TE who breaks 4 tackles and brings it to the 5. Hackensack passes it for a TD to tie it up at 21. Ridgewood ball -- they punt and hackensack ball with 8 to go. Hackensack QB makes a frozen rope throw along the left sideline after scrambling for about 6 seconds and hackensack wide receiver makes a one handed, legitimate odell-beckham esque 1 handed catch. Absolutely sick catch. Hackensack wide outs played really well in the second half.
Hackensack scores to take the lead 28-21 after the fullback takes it 25 yards to the house on a HB reverse. 2 minutes to go and ridgewood has the ball and they drive right down the field. 1st and 10 from the 10 with 50 seconds to go. They run 3 times and with 8 seconds left have a 4th and 1. Quarterback lowers his head and leaps into the endzone. 2 seconds to go, awaiting extra point. Kicker comes out, high pressure, and pushes the extra point just to the left of the upright. Hackensack wins 28-27.
Maybe the most awkward and interesting part of the whole experience is ridgewood order 30+ pizzas at halftime when they were up 14-0 to celebrate senior night post-game. Ridgewood players were understandably devastated with the result and not real keen on pizza. Not sure what happened there, I'm sure somebody ate them. Sick game
