Legendary broadcaster Hugh Downs — a longtime fixture of network news who found his greatest successes as co-host of NBC’s “Today Show” and ABC’s “20/20” — has died at the age of 99, according to a statement issued by his family.

The statement said that Downs died at his home in Scottsdale, Ariz. on Wednesday evening surrounded by his family.

That's a shame, but a life well-lived. My wife worked with him for a few weeks on a PSA on HIV back in the late 80s - she was a lowly production assistant for a small NYC production company and he was a pretty big star, but she said one thing he was known for was asking to meet everyone on a production and chatting with them about their work, which he did. And she said he was simply a gentleman throughout the entire shoot.

On Twitter Thursday, CBS News political correspondent Ed O’Keefe noted: “He retired from ‘20/20’ in 1999 and died at age 99 in the year 2020. Sweet symmetry. Rest easy, Hugh Downs. One of the best.”

Sorry, but the thread title struck me as odd.

The Animal House picture is wrong. It should say "Germans?" not dead. Don't like to nitpick but anything Animal House is sacrosanct. Don't mess with one of the most culturally important pieces of cinema and the arts of the 20th century. You should be ashamed!
