OT: Josh Pastner's Shadiness

I remember some posters on here going out of their way to defend Pastner like he was some kind of model citizen. Come on, let's paint Pastner as another victim LOL

Could be true or exaggerated.
I believe Pastner knew how shady Bell is/was and let him bend and break NCAA rules with a nod and wink, as long as Bell didn't tell him everything being done.
I wouldn't be surprised if many ( if not all) the top programs worked that way.
With the HC telling an assistant, they know isn't the most honest person in the world, to go after ( insert recruits name here) so he'll commit to us, but don't let me or anyone know how you do it.

Lol.

These coaches either know what is going on, or run a horrible business. You should always know what is going on, and ask as many questions as possible. That is what running a good business takes. If you do not take that step, that is your fault.

I feel no shame for any of them.

Actually the GT players were cleared, the UCLA players weren't
UCLA freshman LiAngelo Ball, the younger brother of former Bruin Lonzo Ball, now with the Lakers, was arrested along with UCLA players Jalen Hill and Cody Riley, according to ESPN.
"We are aware of a situation involving UCLA student-athletes in Hangzhou, China," UCLA said in a statement. "The University is cooperating fully with local authorities on this matter, and we have no further comment at this time."

Georgia Tech players Justin Moore, Jose Alvarado and Jon Brown were questioned and cleared in relation to the incident; according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"During the questioning, it was determined that Georgia Tech student-athletes were not involved in the activities being investigated," a statement to the AJC read. "They will rejoin the team on Tuesday and resume their scheduled activities in advance of Saturday's season opener vs. UCLA in Shanghai."

Interesting timing by Parrish and CBS.

This news broke in October...for some reason I want to say October 24. Now that Georgia Tech is halfway around the world CBS publishes an article that, other than a reference to something Bell tried to do for a Memphis player when Pastner was no longer the coach there, doesn't advance the story.

I guess CBS thought it was going to be a slow college basketball news day then LiAngelo Ball said "hold my beer" and a Federal Grand Jury indicted Chuck Person & Rashan Michel.

It's basketball. Is anyone surprised?
This guy bought two kids groceries, some shoes and let them stay at his house and swim in his pool. Sounds like what was going on with UCLA players back in John Wooden's day

Sam would buy the house they wanted , not just let the UCLA players stay at his and all the cars they drove would have Gilbert co sign the loan

I'm sure that's not all he's done.

College basketball is a dirty sport across the board. It's not a secret.

And UCLA probably would have none of the championships without Papa Sam. But they weren't the only one. They just did it better and had the best coach.

Looks like that is it. Like I said, I first learned about this in late October. When I started reading today's article I expected to read new info. Other than Markel Crawford, who Bell didn't do anything for, there was nothing in this article that had not already come out.

Bell is behaving like a side chick who just realized the married man she's involved with is not getting a divorce.

Reportedly he got upset because Pastner didn't call him on his birthday and Pastner sided with someone on his staff over Bell. So he has gone public with what he has done.

At the end of the day the total impermissible benefits are around $1,200 or so. Unless Pastner did something wrong, make the kids pay the money back to Bell, suspend the kids six games and move along.

The same Josh Pastner that got a recruit that favored Rutgers to go to Georgia Tech....hmmmm
I never believed that he favored Rutgers. Some NY reporter wrote or Tweeted that but he was the only one that i was aware of.

I was always told that the kid wanted Syracuse but they didn't offer, meanwhile Georgia Tech was in the ACC and he loved his visit there.

I'm no lawyer but Bell may have violated a Georgia statute known as Gurley's Law.

Remember it clearly - crystal balls were lined up for RU/SHU second/then GT, who many said was out the last weekend.

A few hours before he announced, the predictions started to switch. Something happened late.

Shoes Vetrone son who is friendly with a lot of these kids was very unhappy via twitter - sense the situation went a bit off script at the end. Does it mean Pastner did something shady? Who knows - but the situations ended oddly (and poorly for RU)

I've tried to warn you guys about the crystal ball. By your argument Montez Mathis should have committed to Connecticut. That ended oddly for them.
