OT: Major Rock Concert in CA in Roctober

As sad as it may be, most of these people should be relegated to the fondness of our memories. McCartney can't sing anymore, at all.

Thinking the same think. More like a viewing, than a concert. What is their average age? 70?

Saw The Who a few years ago in Vegas. Of course, they are down to two members. It was a big love-fest between Daltrey and Townsend as they looked like best friends having the times of their lives being on stage together. Major difference from the 70s and 80s when they hated each other. All in all, a decent show. Like me, Roger Daltrey can't hit a high note to save his life anymore.

Saw Paul McCartney in 1989-ish. He couldn't sing anymore and that was over 25 years ago.

The Stones and Dylan were never known for their vocal chops so no huge loss there. I think the Stones would probably put on the best show, if they can still play their instruments. I think that they can.

Roger Waters just turned into a major anti-semite in his old age. I suppose that his bigotry began to take over as his talent deteriorated, leaving a vacuum.

Oh yeah I forgot.....Neil Young too!

As for singing.....Dylan NEVER could sing. He just consistently writes the best lyrics / songs of any major talent ever: include Bowie, Springsteen whomever.

Well I'm 69. What's the alternative?

As for performance saw the Stones in the 90's "Voodoo Lounge"...with Buddy Guy/ Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Jagger is the energizer bunny (all over the stage) / combined with Richards their songs have a shelf life that exceeds the vast majority of todays superstars (Kayne, Swift, Adele, .... no thanks!).

I agree, too many years have past for most of those guys and it shows. I saw the Stones in Pittsburgh last summer and they still got it. 5th time I saw them since HS graduation in 78, took my kids and they had a ball.

Saw Dylan a few years ago,the first time since the show he did with the Dead at Giants Stadium in 87. I went mostly because he played with My Morning Jacket and Wilco. Also wanted my kids to see him. We left after Bobs first set, his voice was like gravel.

(IIn the wishful thinking department of myself) R crew (make that P Mike and brother) the vacation planning goes 180 as in (not beaches or palm trees- but what band or event is in town while Rutgers or X is in town before booking) I think one of the lesser Festivals "Bumbleshoot"/similar is in SEATTLE at or about the same time as the opening Washington game. Not sure that concert is gonna bringing a headliner.

Coachella is this weekend and miuch is being broadcast via a great steam. 4 Channels Watched a great mavis Staples last night. On the other end was a Brooklyn rapper and electro dance type. .

Disagree. In MY opinion the most overrated person in rock. Again my opinion

I was fortunate to see one of the signature shows of the Stones first "farewell tour" at the Superdome.

It was in December of 1981.

LOL. In my sophomore year at Cook I bought and resold at the same price(-$8-to my Dbag apartmentmate). tickets to "The Who's" Farewell Tour at Shea Stadium, That was the Fall of 1982! I was glad to see the Dbag leave the apartment, though. Sans a few classes (and to the Tennis Courts to chase a snobby Douglass girl who stood next to me in chem lab after I mentioned her) he sat around playing D&D with our other apartment(mates) hours per day 6-7 days per week.

I think I may have actually witnessed the first of these "Farewell Tours". On August 7th 1981? saw "The Doobie Brothers at the Byrne Arena. I remember driving into the Byrne Arena and some of the vans looked like race cares from "The Wacky Racers"-I think I saw a stove built into a van!

Come the end of the show many couples were crying that it was the end of the Doobies. Now 35 years later as an afterthought at 7pm day of show I can call my "crew" in Piscataway and be at a yearly Doobies PNC show in 30 minutes. I look at the Doobies "Farewell Tour" as the OJ Trial of Rock Tours.
With OJ it was bad enough you got OJ and crew well as the verdict. Possibly worse the OJ trial sprung the whole Kardsashian clan (OJ should have received lethal injection for that alone). The Doobies may have inadvertently begun the idea of a "farewell tour".

We all know the quote about opinions....everyone's got one.

But on this topic you're WRONG. Dylan is ICONIC. Overrated ? Not even close.
His true value transcends music, bridges poetry, philosophy and politics. Sorry ED on this one, you need to REDO your thesis....it's flablugent!

How many songs covered by the Byrds, Hendrix, Turtles, Simon / Garfunkle to name a few....were MONSTERS!

Add in his body of work. Outstanding. Compares favorably with Beatles during their height (staring around Rubber Soul- to Let it Be / Stones (longevity + body of work). Probably ahead of both lyrically regardless.

Hey it's your opinion. But if you use record sales ....influence (of the 60's-70's), and look at the artists today, it's not even close.

Who was at the old College Ave gym to see Dylan in 1964? Solo, acoustic, 1/2 filled room. did a song called John Birch Society Blues I never heard again. He's still alive?

Worked a Dylan show years ago in Asbury Park. He's been lip synching for years just like Ozzy has been and a lot of other singers. It's still entertaining.

Would I go see Joe Namath at 70? Willie Mays? No. I have seen most of these guys when they , and I, were much younger and were never going to grow old.. But ,lo and behold ,we have.Enjoy Mo.

Well they need to make sure they have plenty of Geritol, walkers and Metamucil for that concert!

I know it's only rock n roll...but I like it!

Neil is the only one of those I'd be interested in seeing. McCartney is still entertaining, but his voice ain't what it used to be, even in the 90s. Never saw Dylan when he was younger - saw him about 4 years ago in Hoboken and he was simply horrible, mumble-singing with even less tone than he used to have, which is the worst for a guy like him, who writes such great lyrics.

Saw the Who in 1979 when they still could rock (9 days after a dozen or so people were trampled to death at a Who show in Cincy - at the Philly show they were selling t-shirts with footprints on them, saying "I survived the Who." Clever if a little tasteless. No desire to see half the band, especially given irony of their most famous tagline, "hope I die before I get old."

Saw the Stones in 1980, again when they could still rock and have no desire to see a 73-year old Jagger prancing about pretending to be 23. Keith Richard, who finally looks his age, actually has a decent solo album out.

Not sure on seeing Waters, although I imagine it can't be as good as Pink Floyd - saw then in '77 (Animals tour) and '80 (Wall tour).

Neil, however, despite his My, My, Hey, Hey line of "it's better to burn out, than to fade away," can still bring it. Saw his '79 Live Rust show and have seen him three times in the last 10 years,(solo and with Crazy Horse) all of which were great shows. His performances also never really depended on his "youth" like those of the Who and Stones, so I think it's easier for him to still deliver vs. what he used to deliver when he was young.

I also saw their farewell tour at the Meadowlands in 1981 with Tina Turner opening. Refuse to see them live again on principal as I said "farewell" back in 1981.

Saw Black Sabbath a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised that they still can rock. Hopefully will see them this year in what may be their final tour.

You'd be surprised at how good some of these old band shows are.
