OT: New UCF Nike Unis + Helmets

I will probably be called out for posting this...but I think this is the uniform I was hoping Nike would come up with for Rutgers.

The UCF unis strike a nice balance between a modern and traditional look. Our new unis are definitely an improvement over the Flood era unis. I think I would like the new RU unis more if we used a numeral font like UCFs and stuck with, or had helmets similar to the Flood era helmets.

I watched the video with the sound off, so I'll say this knowing I will get ridiculed but I like their design better than ours. The numbers for UCF, while I don't like the carved out point in the upper corner, I do like the squared edges better and I think the overall design is sleeker. Just one man's opinion.

This is exactly what I want.. I really think there was a bunch of gimmicky crap that was going to be in Rutgers uniforms before Ash got here (they were working on these for like 18 months)...I think Ash did the best he could given the circumstances...Just my opinion based on Ash's comments.

If we're going to nitpick on the RU uniforms, the only high-concept I would be in favor of would be for NIKE to have incorporated the Rutgers "starburst" seal into the design somewhere and 1766.

Yea I'm not trying to be dickish about it, but I would say those are vastly superior to ours. Then again they get to have an almost totally unique color scheme whereas we have one of the most common.

You couldn't give Michigan State's numbers to another school in the Big Ten. Had to go to a school in the sun belt.

Agree with this. While ours have definitely improved from the "Salmon Jammies", UCF's are REALLY nice. I love the sword on the helmet and the unique color and yet they don't look like costumes. Scarlet is always going to be a tough color though .

The only thing about that jersey is the stupid "pegasus" on the shoulder. Talk about a generic design. Other than that is just the numbers, and all they show you in the whole video is the 5. Not better than ours. Some people just like black, which is fine, but thats all it is. Ours are much nicer, and better designed.

People really like the UCF ones better? Um... okay.
Agreed. The jersey itself is boring and the horse logo on the shoulder is TERRIBLE. The only thing I like better is the helmet stripe. I wish we still had that and kept our silver helmets somehow. My only beef about our new unis.

Well we like them, and it is just the beginning as if you listen to the video, you will hear that these uniforms will likely not make it past next year as we will evolve from here.

HC Scott Frost has a very close relationship with Phil Knight with Nike and this is simply his first year so Nike wanted to put something different on the field for UCF this coming season.

I hope you are referring to the overall uniform design as generic rather than the Pegasus logo. You would be right if that is the case.

That Pegasus logo is our academic logo and 100% unique to UCF. Some like it, some don't, though it is part of our original history and thus was incorporated into the design.

Regarding the numbers, those too are uniquely UCF and a new part of our custom font that was originally designed in our previous rebranding several years back. Nike just took the alpha characteristics and incorporated the numerals.

Here's a link showing the 64 possible uniform combinations for this year as well as the entire number font list if interested:

Good luck next year. Go Knights!

Oh, and I do particularly like your new train-face knight head that looks oddly similar to the logo our rivals mod has used for years.....

Stop comparing the two. I think they both look great and serve each school's purpose.

Thanks for posting the link... I like your number set. Its a cool design.

I actually like our knight head better. Yours is more cartoony with the eye. Ours is more of a pure logo.

I was saying this in another thread. Everyone is criticizing our new knight head, but we are the knights, and I have not seen any that I like better than our new one.

Actually, that Knight head I posted was specifically created for our rivals page. I am not sure of the specifics but they may have had an issue using the official UCF knight head. Here is our current official one:

Wrong. Godammit with this everyone gets a medal nonsense. This is a zero sum game. There is a winner and a loser. You must choose...

Now our fans are going to compare our new uniforms forever.

Just enjoy them

Our unis are fine but here's what would've made them better IMO:

1. More black accents on the unis,
2. Sword stripes on red & white helmets,
3. Block #s,
4. #s on shoulders,
5. Keep battlescarred helmets & use all of them,
6. Multicolor stripes on sleeves.

So they took Michigan State's number and put it on a blank jersey. Put the UCF on the chest. And the horse on the shoulder. I could have done that in Microsoft word. Weird reactions those saying they're so much better than ours. Maybe those posters are PSU trolls. The sword on the helmet is nice though, wonder what our Unis would look like if they kept that from the last set. But it's on the pants so good enough.

Wow amazing. It's almost like they're both knight heads. Shown from the side. Wow. Yep definitely copied that, they look exactly the same, down to the last stripe

The armor helmets were simply awful.

I agree, I really like the styling of the UCF uniform especially the jersey.

There's nothing wrong with the UCF uniforms - I think they look pretty good. I think ours look better, but I'm biased toward red and our logo more than black and their logo. I also think the Block R is a much cleaner, simpler logo than the UCF logo - and the knight secondary mark is a more interesting (and relevant?) mark than the pegasus.

I do like their numbers, though - they did a very good job tying into the slanting font of the UCF logo.

If you put Rutgers colors on the UCF uni they'd look too much like OSU's. With so many B1G teams with scarlet or red as their main color, they had to do things to make the new uni's unique.

I both like it, and think it's pretty bland. It's sleek and modern, looks like an NFL uni. But there is nothing distinctive about it. I'd never know at a glance that it was UCF. I do think our unis are a little distinctive and you'd be able to pick it out at a glance, even without the distinctive block R, once people get used to it.
