Anyone have any NY Eve traditions they like to share? You know the usuals... watching the ball drop, kissing at midnite, shooting off fireworks. Anyone have unusual ones? I hear ythat some people say white rabbit just before and just after midnite. How bout eating black eye peas? Do tell.....

I drink vodka, and binge on some tv shows...this year, "Making a Murderer" and 3 or 4 30 for 30...

I think The Honeymooners and Twilight Zone marathons start at midnite. I personally like to see what kind of hijinx Jenny McCarthy gets into.

Go out for an early dinner w wife, her brother and his wife, back to our house for drinks, they stay til midnight.
I'm just hoping I don't miss too much of the Okla v Clemson game. We're going for a 5:30 dinner , lol , so early to beat the crowds and delays. Hope to see the 4th qtr.

We host a NY Eve party every year with 25-30 people usually showing up. Lots of good food, alcohol (highlighted by my friend who lived in Chile for several years and always makes the most amazing pisco sours) and silliness, which usually go together, plus I always have a fresh playlist, with some dancing usually breaking out by 11 pm, and the pool table is the scene of many battles, as we usually play couple vs. couple. At midnight we pause to watch the ball drop, drink champagne, and then get right back to partying. Will miss all the football. Nothing too crazy, except maybe for the x-rated things that often get done to the ceramic gnome...

We have spent New Years in London the past 10 years straight.

This year,,,new tradition........................................ KEY WEST

Out to dinner with wife and another couple , who I can't stand because they are cheap . But wife likes them for some reason .
Home to watch college football . Like most of my Saturday nights from September to January . This year I will spend New Year's Day writing some fan mail to Al golden .

Past two years has been dinner at a fancy hotel with the wife and her family. Before that, running a 5k.

Five shots from the 12-gauge pump (No. 8 shot, for safety) into the night sky at midnight. YeeeeeHaaaaawwww!!! It's a Southern thang. . . .

Black-Eyed Peas and Collards (or another "green") are consumed on New Year's Day, for luck and $. Said peas are also a main ingredient in Hoppin' John, a dish often served that day.

Central Part to watch the fireworks. The baby sleeps like a champ bundled in the stroller wife gabs with her friends and I sip my flask to keep warm.

I'm thinking of starting a new tradition this year - the Time Zone New Year's celebration. We'll start celebrating with Paris at 6:00 p.m., then with London at 7:00, moving on to Iceland at 8:00, then taking a break before celebrating with Rio de Janeiro at 10:00, and Newfoundland at 11:00. Then if I'm still able to stand up, we'll join everyone for the East Coast celebration at midnight. Sounds like a plan, no?

Always thought of News Years Eve as amateur night. Haven't seen the ball drop/stroke of midnight in many years. Usually home early or a brief drink with neighbors. This year have games to watch! Than bed.

Ill be up fairly early the next day hitting the gym. I find waking up hungover on January 1 just an awful way to start the new year

How much are u allowed to deduct? Never thought to get a receipt when I donate
I added the tax code below. I will note that my family has very expensive taste in clothing.

Limitations on Deductions

In general, contributions to charitable organizations may be deducted up to 50 percent of adjusted gross income computed without regard to net operating loss carrybacks. Contributions to certain private foundations, veterans organizations, fraternal societies, and cemetery organizations are limited to 30 percent adjusted gross income (computed without regard to net operating loss carrybacks), however. Exempt Organizations Select Check uses deductibility status codes to indicate these limitations.

Normally, home with fam watching movies, then short turn of channel to watch ball drop, kiss/hug, a call to west coast fam, then bed. This year... Winter Classic to watch Bruins vs. Canadiens. Go B's!! HNY, everyone!

is this a key party
Not quite, lol, although divorce has struck a few of our friends over the years. Everything went pretty much as advertised. People brought some great food and alcohol (including the best pisco sours in the history of the world), there was much silliness, there was some dancing, and the competition on the pool table was pathetic, yet fierce. First year without Metuchen fireworks, though (putting up buildings where they used to launch from) - we were able to see them from our front yard, so we'd always pause at midnight to watch them. Things wound down around 2 am.

Wife and I did this a few years ago at Destination Dogs in NB. They celebrate every hour starting at 6 with free champagne each hour. I think we stayed til 10. For those who like to get to bed early, it's a great option.
