Did John Calipari's office staff misaddress the FedEx "cash" package? Sensational NJ distaff high school hurdler Sydney McLaughlin is headed to the University of Kentucky's 61st-ranked outdoor track & field squad. Is Sydney dating a NJ 5-star oneanddone hoops player?

cant understand her selection of college. she could have gone to Stanford or a number of elite schools. Kentucky????

I thought I read that one of the best hurdler coaches in the country is at UK but I might be wrong. To me Kentucky has never been considered an outstanding track team. I wish she had stayed in the east. She is already one of the best hurdlers in the world and I can see UK bragging in the future when she does well in the Olympics and international meets. She was already in the Olympics when she was still in high school at Union catholic. Her NJ coaches as well as Sydney herself deserve the credit for her accomplishments.

Yes Kendra Harrison a record holder in the 100 meter hurdles still trains at UK under the guidance of one of UK's coaches and she wants to move up to the 400 meter hurdles. Apparently Sydney wants to train with Harrison.

Yeah, it's really more about training partners for the elite. I had a teammate who went to South Carolina just because he could train with Terrence Trammel, who was an olympic hurdler. Elite runners need to be pushed in workouts by other runners.

She is from my hometown of Dunellen. There is nothing scandalous here. She wants to train with Harrison and loves the U.K. coach. She and her family are very down to earth people. She comes from a great family. BTW, her older brother runs track for Michigan.

Of course, everyone is correct about this being on the up-and-up, but I bet Calipari had a plan ready if it would have helped him land a player.

I'm guessing Rutgers track was never even in the conversation ?

What do we need to do to even be on Kentucky's 61st ranked level ? Tons of great track athletes in NJ

I believe we're a better program than UK, but, again, at this level of athlete it isn't about the program, it's about training partner. If RU had a current top-5 in the world runner training here, then we'd be in contention for this caliber of runner.

Top runners usually head south for the longer training season outdoors. Plus if one of the top hurdlers trains there it's an easy decision.

This brings back thoughts of Nick Vena, the outstanding shot putter from Morristown. Does anyone know if he is still competing? Thanks. $$$$
