OT: NJIT arena

FGCU will play there every year. Would love to see Rutgers do a series with FGCU. Can't hurt Florida recruiting and occasionally Rutgers might visit southwest Florida (Naples/Fort Myer/Marco Island area) where Rutgers has plenty of alumni and retired NJ folks.

Our OCC (other than pre-B1G sked tournaments) games should always be at the RAC.

The Highlanders can come here.

Exception IMO should be what Wisky does for other schools in the UW system and maybe play a game at Newark or Camden.

Would love to see an early-season Garden State tournament:

There's eight teams in NJ: Seton Hall, Rutgers, Princeton, Rider, Fairleigh Dickinson, Monmouth, St. Peter's, and NJIT.

Don't even have to hold it every single year (nor would teams want to, they would want to be in other early-season events) but what about every 4 years? Host it at a different campus each time.

If RU doesn't draw more than 4k at the RAC vs NJIT, why not play there one time?

It would be good practice to play in a hostile environment.

Been saying the above for years.

Now that we are in a different conference than shoe I would want to play all the NJ schools every year. But here unless it was a tournament as you suggest. And if that’s the case have it at the Brendan Byrne (will always call it that) or the Sun Bank in Trenton. Not a fan of having it on different campuses unless it was at the RAC every year. LOL

Playing in front of a number that will be less than 4K and looks like the cast of “The Big Bang Theory” does not a hostile environment make. LOL

good for them...anyone know how it was financed/paid for?

they could have used the lower bowl of Prudential, like shoe does...

For the NJ engineers here, NJIT's all-time record vs. Div-III Stevens Tech Ducks is something like 47-18. The Highlanders get slaughtered, though, by the Ducks on starting salaries and subsequent earnings.

That building actually looks pretty awesome, looks like a slightly smaller version of what Rutgers might have built if we were more centralized. Kind of like a mix between the new practice facility, Werblin Rec Center, and the RAC, but a little smaller at each spot.

Had exactly same thought. Have nj former nba and ncaa stars there, invite hs teams to come, make it showcase for nj hoops....luv to make it RU every 4 years, would be good for downtown NB too.

And Brendan Byrne or Sun Bank if you want to barnstorm it the other 3 years.

Are Rutgers season ticket buyers on the hook for these "NJ" games?
Just drove past Germain Arena on way to RSW from week in Naples.

Does FGCU play “big” games there? I noticed something advertising a Thanksgiving showcase of some sort.

me three... it would be very cool. fans could train to both area's I believe..although the train from 16x goes to the football stadium and it would be a good walk over? Same for Trenton Station vs. Arena.. (although they could provide shuttle buses)?

They have the light rail in Trenton and I think the shuttle option for the Meadowlands is only for events bigger than 35K?

Nice idea but not sure how feasible either is.

It's not a close nor safe walk from the Trenton train station to the arena.

Only big events at Metlife stadium get trains.
The Izod arena no longer has public events.
lol..I know. I live 20 mins away and used to park in next to the Prison in Trenton for prior events... (men vs. Rider and women NCAA tourney)

The Gulf Coast Showcase is played every year during Thanksgiving week with 8 teams . Mens tournament is played Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday . Last year Houston beat Vermont at the buzzer . Penn and Manhattan are among the 8 teams this year . The womens tournament is played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday . Rutgers, South Carolina and Notre Dame are 3 of the 8 teams . Germain seats about 7,000 . I've gone every year and I will be there again in 2 and a half weeks .

FGCU does not play at Germain but at their on campus 4,000 seat arena . They did play in the Gulf Coast Tournament 3 years ago and are scheduled to play again next season .

Likewise for me yesterday returning from Marco Island. FGCU at one time played at the larger venue. Can not recall games there recently. Saw Rutgers baseball visit FGCU. Rutgers was outclassed, but I must admit plenty of Rutgers fans turned out, including a former Rutgers AD who I had a wonderful chat with.

I'll tell you Ed that isn't true. My son is a senior at NJIT and I went to a game there a couple of years ago against Texas-Arlington in the CBI (?) post season tournament . The place was packed and very loud,
Bit it was a great comment though!!! [banana]

Those who stepped foot inside the brand new 11,580 square-foot indoor turf field here couldn't help but stare open-mouthed at the space.

"It's so modern, we don't have anything like this on campus," said NJIT student and baseball player Chris Gibbons, 20. "We're really fortunate to have this."

On Friday, local and state politicians joined NJIT officials to debut the campus' $110 million Wellness and Events Center, that will house the university's Division I athletic program, provide club and event space, and offer a conference facility for the city.

"This is a building that is state-of-the-art, multi-purpose," said NJIT President Joel Bloom. "Yes, it's an athletic center; it's also a conferencing center."
