Northwestern's McKeown will retire after 2025-26

Northwestern women's basketball coach Joe McKeown, who has won nearly 800 games and made 17 NCAA tournaments over four decades spent mostly leading the Wildcats and George Washington, plans to retire after the 2025-26 season, the school announced Monday.

"Jumping Joe" as we called him in the day. When he was at GW, he would rip off his jacket and hop on and off his chair kind of all in one motion, if I recall correctly.

A very nice guy, we talked to him briefly outside the GW arena - it wasn't that long before the game, but apparently he wandered a bit. Saw him a couple years later at a tourney in Walsh Gym and he was watching the swimmers in the attached pool shortly before his game.

Also the only coach I ever saw stop and talk to the opposing fans as a group, which he did at the first game against Rutgers at their place after we left the A10. Welcomed us, mentioned he would miss the rivalry, etc. Then went out and beat the you know what out of us.

He will be missed, but success has eluded him lately. Hope schools (where appropriate) honor him somehow next year.
