OT: R.I.P. Ray Fosse

Great catcher. Good hitter before the Rose collision. Rollie Fingers, who's lifetime era was 2.90 had a 2.25 era when Fosse caught! Fingers said his ability to move around behind the plate, depending on the pitch, made it easier to pitch to.
After his playing days he was an excellent announcer for 35 years for the A's

He was good hitter and player after it. Made the AS team in '71 and earned a gold glove. Played in more games in '71, '72 & '73 than he did in '70. The collision likely had little effect on his career trajectory. It wasn't until '74 that he fell off the cliff.

I'll give you most of that. He was technically a rookie in 70. By '74 his days as a full time player was over. To his credit he never made it an excuse while playing. After he said it impacted him the rest of his life. Maybe the 2nd best announcer in California behind Vin Scully.

F*ck Pete Rose!
Pete played the game like no other. You’re in extra innings in the AS game in Cincinnati no less. MLB AS.games were way bigger back then. Way more eyeballs watching. You can argue the MLB AS game was bigger than the Super Bowl back then. You’re on second & there’s a single and you got a chance to score the winning run but the catcher is blocking the plate. WTF u supposed to do, tip-toe around him? Pete says FU too!

Now you have gone too far. The All Star wasn't even near the Super Bowl. 45 million vs 16 million in 1970
