Looking to take the family to the Radio City Christmas show. Haven't been in a long time. Any suggestions on good prices on tickets and where to get them? We are looking to go to an afternoon show during the week early in December to try to get a better deal.

Thanks in advance.

Went "last minute" last year with Piscataway Mike (we were able to catch an early train before a Billy Joel show-then went to Mendy's) . A fun show and good day despite it rained heavily until 5PM (bring an umbrella)

1) Make sure the tree at Rockefeller Center is up before you go-the tree is a 1-2 minute walk (~December 3rd).
2) McDonalds had coupons last year for many performances.
3) Forgot what Mike did for a "discount" at the window (we forgot coupons) but he found us good tickets at the box office 2 minutes before the show. They were the back rows of the left orchestra (lowest level).
4) Frankly, from the time you mentioned it seems like a low demand performance-and its early in December. You might want to wait untll late in the game to purchase your tickets.
You might get a bargain last minute. With matinees I guess you have to worry about school groups though. Re scalpers-our 1st "attempt"-we got their right before the show but saw nobody selling. There was also plenty of security around the entrance. I think if a scalper was away from the theatre a bit you be ok if you were careful.
6) I also remember Groupon and similar for last year's shows (and the summer show-ditto McDonalds)

5) From this year I wanted to go see Billy Joel in Dec again. Mike said there's a Jets game that night. Might make sense to pick a date where there's competition from else.

Definitely don't buy early. They will discount as the date gets closer for the off peak shows. Remember they have a lot of performances, every day, in a fairly large venue. They need to flex price to keep demand up. Do your typical internet searches and go to their website to keep an eye on the available seats. If you look at the seating chart and see lots of available seats as you get closer to the show they will start discounting.

Also you can definitely get discounts on the earliest show if the day. Not sure during the week, but on weekends they start as early as 11 am I believe. You can usually get the same price for that show on a weekend as a show during the week.

My 17 year old beautiful Grand Daughter, with her parents, was in F. A.O.Schwartz when she was 7 years old.A group of Rockettes were doing a promo performance there at the time. LSS.She wound up getting her picture taken with them. Thrilled beyond imagination.Pic was published in either the NY Post or News. She still is dancing and has been on her School's dance team for her 4 years in H.S.

Before the 1st Pin Stripe bowl in 09 (?) got dragged there with the whole family.

Let's just say this isn't a huge blast for middle aged adult males. Was thinking about dinner the whole show
I was dragged there also.. absolutely hated every minute of it.

And I enjoy Christmas...

Looks like we are going to target a Friday afternoon show (either 12/2 or more likely 12/9). The 2pm could work nice if the tree is up by then. Taking my wife, 2 little kids and my parents. I appreciate the advice. I will probably wait to get the tickets then to see what is out there. It seems there is a lot of availability now. Any seating recommendations?

We had orchestra seats last year but far back and they were fine. I personally wouldn't spend extra money to be closer - no real advantage, and I would sit farther back to get me an aisle seat as the seats are very close together. Definitely avoid bringing extra shopping bags and bulky coats if you can.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe they do a nice deal on Black Friday for these tickets. I want to say half price or BOGO, but it was something that I thought about for my family.

Again I had back orchestra with Piscataway Mike for a 5PM Thursday show (left back orchestra) and there were empty seats to put our coats. One mother and her daughter moved to another seat so that they could talk.

We went a few years ago. I think the prices are less expensive earlier in the season. They have added more special effects that are pretty cool.
