RIP Icon

The legends are dying with no currently obvious replacements.

Perhaps celebrities were just a 20th Century thing, never again to be repeated.
Yes, it's really too bad there are no famous sexy women anymore.

Remains to be seen if they're still popping wood into their 70s like Welch, tho. Pretty rare feat in any era.

R.I.P Jo Raquel (Tejada) Welch
Little known fact : Raquel's cousin was the President of Bolivia on an interim basis from 1979 to 1980.

I was just watching her on an archived segment of Dick Cavett.
She was on with Janis Joplin of all people
Its pretty interesting to watch major celebs of the time talking normal without all the formulas and PC
As I watcheed I was thinking "well I guess she'll have an RIP Rivals thread pretty soon"

Saw her live on Saturday Night Live in NYC in April 1976 while I was at Rutgers. Hard to believe almost 50 years ago. 🍷

When I was a young lad in the early/mid-70's, Rachel Welch and Lynda Carter were the first 2 women I can recall me saying "I like that" but didn't know exactly why at the time.

RIP to a beauty.

"...Raquel Welch was originally cast as Domino in the James Bond film "Thunderball;" however 20th Century Fox Production Chief Richard D. Zanuck asked producer Albert R. Broccoli to release her from contract as a favor so she could star in "Fantastic Voyage" (1966).

Raquel Welch, Julie Christie, Faye Dunaway, Yvonne Monlaur, Mary Menzies, Gloria Paul and Maria Grazia Buccella were all contenders for the role of Domino. Raquel Welch dropped out to do Fantastic Voyage (1966). Faye Dunaway would later be a contender to play Octopussy..."

There is more of her on the Cavett site.
The whole Cavett page is a treasure.
Of course I like the Ali interviews, and Ali does a great bit about when kids tell him they want to be a fighter. he also talked about how he knew he had fighters injured and lightened-up. The other bits with Foreman are amazing.

True story: My dad had a poster of Raquel in his workshop. At a young age, and not knowing any better, I took an oil gun and squirted it a couple of times on her chest (easy fellas, it was truly an oil gun and not a moniker). Boy my dad was pissed!! The oil stains never came off. It was this one:

Did your dad have a tunnel behind that poster in his workshop?
