OT: RIP Delorenzo’s, Hamilton

I know what you mean. They will take it off the hook because it gets so busy. Gotta be patient lol.

Every once in a while I'll get Marcello's (George Dye & 33) Corleone style pizza if I cant get through to Papas. They are different then Papas much thicker but pretty good.
The Guatemalan place next door to Marcello's has the best birria tacos. It's called Que Rico Restaurant. I recommend it highly.

Back to our regularly scheduled pizza banter...I prefer Papa's. Too many guys in De Lorenzo's with shirt-and-tie eating the pizza with a knife & fork. Like, really guy? Pick the slice up, be a man.

Who cares about the clientele, we all know the pizza is much better at DeLo's. Can't agrue with the data.

Never should have left Trenton as the Hamilton spot couldn't produce sales like the original spot.
Didn't the Trenton location operate without a restroom? Something about a grandfather clause? The actual founding godfather's picture was on the wall watching you as you ate. Great place to hit before Trenton Thunder games. When I found out the local elementary school newspaper had an obituary column (ala Rodney Dangerfield), I figured their time in Trenton was up. Great memories and pizza. $$$$

I'm in town Center

My only issue with Papa's is that frequently I can't get through on the phone. Massimo's in Foxmoor is our other choice.
I live in Robbinsville too! We were in Town Center for about 9 years before going to the other side of 130 when we were expecting our 4th kid and right after I was diagnosed with Lymphoma. DeLo’s when they pick up the phone is our go to place. Otherwise for tomato pies, it would be Papa’s. Mannino’s on 33 makes an excellent vodka chicken Sicilian.

One place outside of Robbinsville that makes a great tomato pie is Lillo’s in Hainesport. I think there’s some connection to Papa’s. They also make an awesome cheesesteak with cooper sharp that may be one of the best in Jersey.

You are correct - the Trenton restaurant on Hamilton Street did not have a public restroom. They would allow you to use the employee bathroom which meant you needed to go through the kitchen. I have no idea how they got that through the department of health - well I do actually.

No restroom and no female employees well into the 2000’s

It's always been my contention that this one that just got shut down, DeLorenzo's Pizza, only receives any attention at all because of the similarity/confusion between the two places, which, as you say, are completely unrelated businesses (and the familial relationship is so distant that the members of each struggle to explain it).

So, if this place were called "Joe's" and it shut down, it wouldn't be the least bit newsworthy. It's regular New York-style pizza, and it's good, but not significantly above average. It's just a place. It won't be missed other than by people in pizza forums who lament the loss of a legend, when they are clearly associating it with De Lorenzo's Tomato Pies.

I do think that it only ever occupied its previous location on Hamilton Ave. in Trenton, but just about on the Hamilton Twp. border before moving to Sloan Ave. (EDIT: I see now that they had a place in the 'Burg prior to 1961. Didn't realize that.)
This pizza place has a strong following. Not everyone wants to schlep all the way to Robbinsville. So while it may not be as popular as Robbinsville, It’s still popular. If it reopens, I may go there from time to time.

They are less than 5 miles apart. Hamilton and Robbinsville are adjacent towns. No schlepping required.

Im talking about people who live near Delorenzo’s in Hamilton. It’s an additional 4.6 miles or 12 minutes by car. Not everyone wants to make that extra drive, which is why the Hamilton location was popular.

I'm that people. We go to Robbinsville because that's the real deal.
EDIT - still prefer Papa's though. Also in Robbinsville.

I make the extra drive to Papas, but do order Delos once in a while. Delorenzo’s Hamilton is still popular and convenient. Hopefully they resolve their tax issues and are back in business soon.

I prefer Papa's to any of them. De Lorenzo's Tomato Pies (either Yardley or Robbinsville; there's no difference) is also very good, but to me, it's not quite the equal of Papa's. I live in Yardley and still go to Papa's more often than De Lo's.

The DeLorenzo's Pizza that just closed is just a run-of-the-mill pizza place that got a life from its familiar-ish name. It's loss is no more significant than any other one-off pizza place closing. It was good, but in the way that many pizza places are good.

What a blessing to live in NJ. I'm within a 25 minute drive from De Lorenzo, Papa's, Federici's, and Brooklyn Square.

I'm about to eat leftover pizza from De Lorenzo's at three in the morning after reading this thread.

Here's a secret about Delos in Robbinsville

You can order a par cooked pie to take home & finish in your oven if you don't want to hang out waiting for a table.

You're welcome
Or just go there for lunch. Take out or table, never have waited. :)
