OT: RIP Ken Howard

I had a photo of him as a candidate for the RU job last week. RIP. Great show back in the day.

While I liked that show he'll always be Thomas Jefferson in my mind.

Jay Bilas posted today that he was an opponent on one team! Remember when they played the touring Russian team?

Ken Howard played Coach Ken Reeves, aka "The White Shadow," on a TV show of the same name. The show hit home to many of us growing up at the time, especially those who loved and played hoops, as it featured a white HC at an inner-city school that was represented by every race, creed, and color, and broached just about every topic those types of situation could incur. IMHO a great show at the time.

One of my favorite SNL skits was when they did a takeoff of the White Shadow with Bill Russell as Black Shadow a black coach of all white team where the coach gets in trouble and players bail him out. Very clever skit.

Former Chicago Bull power forward beset by injuries who ended up coaching high school ball in inner city Los Angeles before the program was shut down in 1981.
Did they find him in bed with principal Buchanan ?

What happened - more than just singing in the showers? Some getting lathered up Sandusky style? Did Mike Brey recommend this?

(yes, I know it meant the show was ended/cancelled)

I remember this show being a must watch on Monday nights at 8:00 ET iirc.

A true Renaissance Man. Former instructor at Harvard. President of SAG-AFTRA union.

A bit of trivia. Ken Howard was the White Shadow years before the TV show. He was given that nickname in 1961, when he was the only white starter on his Manhasset NY high school team.
