OT: RIP Monica Quartermaine

I was at Rutgers during the whole Luke and Laura thing. Sounds crazy now but most didn't have TVs in the dorm rooms. My sophomore year was the height of it all and I had class back on Cook. The student center would be packed in the TV area well before 3pm. It was like the whole campus was skipping class. I'd pass through to get a soda and a snack and was amazed how many guys were "into" it including fellow athletes. Turns out many of them were just trying show the ladies that they had a heart for GH but actually using it to meet the pretty girls. 🤣
That so many people bought into the crappy acting and production was mind blowing.
Funny the build up to the wedding was crazy but as soon as they got married most people stopped watching. Lol

Was she still married to Dr. Alan Quartermaine at the time of her death?
Alan is dead. And the real life actor Stuart Damon is also dead. Luke is off the show for awhile but Laura is on the show. I believe Tracy Quartermaine is on from time to time. Bobbie Spencer is dead. Heather Webber has been off and on the show and was recently portrayed by Ally Mills the mom from the Wonder Years. Leslie Webber makes cameos but not recently and she is 85!. Everyone can remember the characters but we forget how long ago it was. These people are REALLY old

That wedding was viewed by 30 million people back in 1981

It's amazing that soaps were on wall-to-wall on all three networks, now I think there are only three left on network TV.
yep..remember also when talks shows dominated the space in the 90s. I think reality tv put an end to both of them and then the smartphone was the end to all of it. The show became everyones social media space and then their tik tok and reels. Sad where we are actually in society that the phone went from a communication device to a forced carry to get into games or for id.

There are plenty of new shows that follow the soap format and despite more technology are really little more than modern soap operas.

That’s true. I was mainly commenting on daytime network TV though.

I was in school when the cliffhanger for "Moonlighting" happened.

I was in Katzenbach visiting a gf on Douglass and when it went down you could hear the gasps throughout the dorm.

Monica and Bobbie within a year, loved both characters and actresses
plus both Romans on Days of Our Lives and alot of other deaths and suicides of former actors.

really shows how old we are getting but why does it seem like i remember these scenes like i was 10 again

haha the thing at RU during my time was Beverly Hills 90210, everyone gathering around a tiny tv with bad audio

General Hospital will likely remain the only soap opera ever to have a cast member who had his face insured for $1 million by a baseball team owner.

Is Stefano DeMera still alive on Days of Our Lives? He must have faked his death or been killed 20 times.

Ive heard that name before but dont know the current characters....i hated it when they went all in on that one guy and his family of creeps
Monaco (Philly) was one of the better Playmates back in the 90s. She had no bleach or plastic. She did regular stint on Baywatch and was in movies like "Idle Hands" with Jessica Alba. The films salacious bits helped Alba and Monaco quite a bit
