OT- RU Struggling with Monmouth Early On

Monmouth has beaten USC, UCLA, GTown and ND, ALL on the road this year, so thinking WE had any shot, whatsoever, to win this game, was a tad foolhardy.

You aren't going to beat many teams shooting 30%. Rutgers has cornered the market on kids who just flat out can't put the ball in the ocean. This has to be all on EJ, his offense, and recruiting.

Yeah sure...let's start beating the drum him to get fired!

Maybe you should consider that Monmouth is good...that we gave them a good game and had a chance to win.

Poor shooting has been a hallmark of Rutgers basketball for far too long and the losses keep mounting up.

When EJ took over, he had 4 scholarship players left on the roster after the Mike Rice fiasco. He needed to find warm bodies just to have enough players to field a team.

Those warm bodies are now the seniors and juniors on the team. But they aren't really the kind of players you can count on for senior leadership. So we have a team that is led by raw freshmen and sophomores. And we've had injuries in the bigs, requiring other players to get significant minutes out of position.

But reasonable explanations aside, as the losses keep mounting up, it gets harder for EJ to get new recruits to come here. I don't know if it is this year or next, but if EJ can't get it done, we need to take a different approach.

I've supported EJ since he came, but no more. He has to go. And while they're at it...get some good updates for the RAC tohelp in recruiting. We're an embarrassment in the B1G. Stop his cheap nonsense.

Big whoop. Let's break out the participation trophies!!!

Maybe you should consider the reason RU loses to "good" teams is because, once again this year, Rutgers isn't. Hell, they also lose to bad teams.

I gave up my season ticket after 21 years because I couldn't justify the time and expense anymore. Because of that I won't call for anyone to lose their job but come on, SHU and Monmouth are much better programs now. That should not happen. Hopefully Hobbs with his BB back round (as compared to football) can fix this mess.

The freshman/sophomore excuse would be valid if there weren't young players filling it up for other programs across the country. We know that's not true.

Doesn't it bother you that there always seems to be more excuses than results?

Monmouth Bench didn't bring their A game today.
Media thought they did fine.

Other teams have freshmen and sophomores playing behind juniors and seniors. Rutgers has no quality juniors and seniors. That is Mike Rice's fault, not Eddie Jordan's.

But as I said, the youth explanation, as valid as it may be, doesn't change the fact that if EJ can't get it done, then we need to take a different approach.

are our fans still gushing over the Monmouth bench, did they cheer them on. The good thing about the game was that it was a game, and a fun one to be at and the bench was a total afterthought as it should be

anyhow Eddie need to go, that's clear, not the right guy for this kind of challenge

As well they SHOULD be...they have head coaches that have been there at least 5-6 years.
What is normal here at RU is after a coach is here 3 years we demand a final 4 team.

An inane response. We're not expecting a Final 4 team, but we do expect some positive results and NOT getting any, after 3 lame years.

Why doesn't basketball have an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty like football does? Those players should be tossed for taunting

Keep in mind that the 2012-2013 season was a complete wash for Eddie and it's basically year 2 for him. He has a decent core but they are all frosh/sophs.

What's more telling is the lack of recruits for this year.

We should see some improvement next year -- but Eddie won't be going anywhere unless he implodes.

hire the damn Monmouth coach

i dont really care about basketball...how the hell did they build a good team and we can't?

Final 4? Christ, how about making the darn tournament? What is it now? 24 years and counting? Can't blame anyone in particular but come on.

Im so torn about basketball. And I am the type they should be trying to get as a fan. I don't miss anything that relates to football and try every single year to find some way to get interested in the MBB team and can't make it through a game.
I think EJ walked into a tough deal- our facilities are high school at best. What top kid is going to want to come here when there are so many better facilities and schools supporting MBB right in our own back yard.
On the other hand...wtf has he done as a coach to figure out how to get a few wins. You see coaches all over America come up with ways to have their less talented teams play better then we do. Our shooting %'s are near "pickup game" levels. That is on him.
I just fear that if we spend on facilities, he either still won't attract top talent or won't coach them well anyway.

The team is likely to finish no better than 7-25...add in the 25 straight losses to end last sesson and that would make 40 losses in the last 47 games...sounds like implosion to me.. we need someone new

Either fix it or scrap the whole program. Basketball has been a blight to the university now for decades.

I'm thinking more along the lines of Bannon/Hill implosion. I don't think Jordan will get fired this year for poor team performance TBH.

I'm not looking to take anything away from Eddie Jorden. He was an excellent college player, a good pro player and an ok coach. But I had my doubts regarding his ability to recruit talent. I also had my doubts on his ability to develop kids. I hated coach Rice for what he did to those kids, his firing was justified. However, in terms of recruiting, fundamentals of basketball and executing game day X's & O's Rice was hands down a better HC than Jorden. Nothing is perfect in life but if Rice wasn't such a mental case he would have us playing in the NCAA. JMHO

I think your answer lies in how their admission dept works compar to ours.
But let's forget about that and just fire the coach and bring in another that is going to have the same limitations....and then fire him after 3 years too.

That's an honest answer "old man River". It all comes down to the recruiting criteria, standards and guidelines set by the institution/administration. The same will apply to coach Ash when he starts in two weeks. We as fans did not see the internal Tug-of-war between Schiano/Rice and the administration when trying to recruit athletes. It happened quite often and in almost every case the administration won.

Rice sucked too.

are we really playing the "higher admission standards" card? I thought our standards are the bare minimum for any college?

Do we have to field a men's basketball team to maintain our B1G membership? Would the funds be better spent on a men's fencing team or how about water polo?

I'm not playing any card.
Just try bringing in a JUCO or 2....still don't know how Freeman got in.
